The article above was enlightening. So many shooting tragedies have followed inspired by this.
It's harder to defend rights toward assault weapons after you revisit this sad anniversary.

Name one assualt rifle/weapon (that meets the military definition of an assualt rifle/weapon) that was used in the attack. There were none that I know that have been documented of used in that event.Lightning Bolt wrote:http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/200 ... yahoorefer

Unfortunately idiots do use firearms and commit crimes. They also use cars, vehicles, axes, machetes, baseball bats and other things.
No one is calling on a limit for those items or calling them by another name, are they?
Would you blame pencils, pens, or keyboards for bad grammar? Vehicles for killing tens of thousands of people every year?
Certainly any pen, pencil, keyboard, is only as good or bad as the person using/misusing it. Just as vehicles....
Why are or should firearms be any different? Do you mean just because, they are firearms that they must be bad because of what they look like?
Do you believe/think everyone should pay for the mistakes and law breaking of others?
The punks at Columbine were just that, punks.

Okay, I know I'm inviting attack.... but here goes.
Every gun is designed to kill. Its sole purpose is to destroy life. Assault weapons are designed to do it more efficiently. How can that not be bad? Name a gun that's purpose is not to kill, hurt or destroy.

A water gun... a marshmellow gun...paintball guns....grease guns, screw guns..., nail guns,.... do you want more examples?
Do you know the difference between a so called assualt weapon and a real assualt weapon?
What knowledge of firearms do you have? If a child brought you a firearm could you render it safe? What do you do while waiting for someone to arrive and to render the weapon safe? Hurry up and wait? and maybe feel bad that a coworker or neighbor has such knowledge of such weapons?
Are you wanting/willing to live in a state where only crimminals, military, and police only own firearms? and to depend solely upon the telephone and police to protect you? Do you realize what that effectively means? Or how against such, our Founding Fathers wishes that would be?
Pardon me while I would not, and I do feel free to exercise OUR Constituional Rights.

I'm sure they would be comforted to know the Constitution was being upheld through those terror-filled hours that followed.
.... and I know you wouldn't have the guts to look them in the eye to defend your point.
It really is the cowards... and the bullies... who defend this right so ferociously.

Hmmm . . . how is it that some of us live our whole lives and never touch or hold, let alone use a firearm?

I don't know who needs an assault weapon if you're not in the military, but that's just me.
Driving through the hood every day to take my daughter to school I've noticed that the gun show billboards in our town are strategically placed in parts of town known for gangs and gun violence. How very noble.
There's no excuse for how Dylan and Eric got a hold of the weapons they had that day.

It really is the cowards... and the bullies... who defend this right so ferociously.????? Oh come off it!!
It takes guts to defend a constitutional right ... particularily in our quickly developing socialist political environment.....
You do not need to own a gun, hold a gun or ever even see a picture of a gun; however, you cannot pick and choose which parts of the constitution you feel should be upheld.
Is freedom of speech next? As we've seen from recent teenage suicides...words can kill.

Can't believe it's been 10 years already

No comment for guns either way... but I wonder if those kids were allowed to carry would the killers have been able to shoot so many unarmed kids? (See it can go either way....)

Re: Columbine ...10 Years Gone
So are all guns to be banned or just assault weapons? If they are how do you get the millions of existing weapons out of the hands of the currently law abiding citizens...I'd be willing to bet that more than half of them would refuse to turn their guns in. Of course the logistics of getting the weapons from the current line of criminals would be even more difficult.
If it is to be assault weapons only someone better do a better job of defining. The Brady bill definitions were a joke. My friends Colt AR15 was classified as an assault weapon, my Ruger mini-14 was not. Both were .223 semiautomatic. The only difference was his had a pistol grip.

I would do the same thing I did with the deadly pit bull that killed my cat. In January we observed the 20th anniversary of the Cleveland Elem School shootings here in Stockton, yet it never gets the coverage that subsequent shootings have gotten. Perhaps because the victims were mainly southeast asian refugees. I don't care if they were from Mars. Five innocent children lost their lives that day, 29 students and one teacher were injured and an entire community was changed forever. It was horrific.
That shooting started the ball rolling on the assault weapons ban, first in Cali, then nationally.

Re: Columbine ...10 Years Gone
I have a niece-in-law who graduated from Columbine the year before the attack happened. The real tragedy is that no one could identify/help/control the troubled youths responsible before it happened. Thank God for all the similar tragedies that are averted by someone stepping in and making a difference in the lives of other problem children, in ways that we will never know.

That is actually my arguement for allowing kids to carry cell phones in school....would things have been worse if the kids were not able to communicate with their parents and the police?Glorfindel7 wrote:Can't believe it's been 10 years already![]()

Sadness and sorrow for those that suffered and lost loved ones in this tragedy.
Personally think the incident has nothing to do with the legality, right or laws of gun ownership.
Cheers

Re: Columbine ...10 Years Gone
Has it really been ten years? My son was so wrongfully accused at his school because he wore a black trench coat. How funny is it now that he makes twice what I and his High school Principal make per a year.
Did you hear the one about me being a punk?
Did you hear the one about me being a drunk?
Did you hear the one about me losing my nerve?
Or how I'm just another f**** sheep in the herd?
Did you hear the one about me giving a s***?
Cause if I ever did I don't remember it.
