Yellow Submarine
Needs to be submerged in a lockbox and not be heard the rest of the tour, hate that it is taking up a key spot in the encore. Hopefully, it runs out of gas tonight..

Re: Yellow Submarine
I think the band sounds great with this cover, the all yellow lights on stage & the great back video. This song needs to stay, it is definitely good live. Sorry you can't get the full effect on RM.

Re: Yellow Submarine
Man, I completely know what your talking about. I can't stand the Beetles version of this song, let alone JB's cover. And, I agree with it taking up a key spot in the encore. Make it the opening song or something, but not the second to last song.tincupchalice wrote:Needs to be submerged in a lockbox and not be heard the rest of the tour, hate that it is taking up a key spot in the encore. Unless the back video is clips from some wet T-shirt contest in Cancun during college spring break, then there won't be enough visual stimulation to keep me interested through this song.

Re: Yellow Submarine
This is sorta like the Dylan cover last year... take the slot and use one of Jimmy's lesser-known, equally-upbeat-sounding songs.

Re: Yellow Submarine
I tend to agree with the author. This song sounded bad. Is not even close to being one of the Beatles better songs. While it may appear to be better live, my guess is that after a day of tailgating and the "coolness" of a Beatles song, thy judgement may not have been quite as clear cut. I know RM doesn't produce great sound, but this sounded very bad to me. Maybe after a few more times they will make it sound better, but I'm not sure it's a good song choice at all. If they insist on playing it, maybe they can put it in place of one of the other covers that they do. I mean, they do a great version of Southern Cross and Brown Eyed Girl, but haven't they done those enough already.

Re: Yellow Submarine
I didn't like it when I heard it on RM from Atlanta but I gave it a chance in Frisco because some songs don't translate well to RM. Sorry, Keith, I definitely had the opposite opinion; I didn't like it live, either. I'd much rather hear another Buffett song, but I'd even prefer Glory Days or Scarlet Begonias to Yellow Submarine.

"Everybody Must Get Stoned" was the one right? I agree with you on that too...it just didn't work for some reason.RinglingRingling wrote:This is sorta like the Dylan cover last year... take the slot and use one of Jimmy's lesser-known, equally-upbeat-sounding songs.

I *really* disliked this one, too (Rainy Day Women). And yet I had to grudgingly admit that it got the crowd going and they seemed to love it, so I understood why it stayed in the show even though I didn't care for it.HD18JBGuy wrote:"Everybody Must Get Stoned" was the one right? Since I have been playing guitar, I have realized just how many songs he does are cover songs. One day I will make a list of which songs are actually written by Jimmy vs. covered by Jimmy. Not that I mind his covered stuff, but many songs such as Defying Gravity, God's Own Drunk, Take the Weather With You, and Stories We Could Tell, to name a few, are all covers he did.

I thought this one was okay. At least it fits in with the scenery better and I didn't think it was performed that bad. Actually, just listened to it on the way home from work a little while ago. I was not a big fan of Glory Days either though. Of course, I'm not a big Springsteen fan which might have had a lot to do with it.

Re: Yellow Submarine
Yeah, I saw him do Glory Days for the first time at Wrigley (second day show). It was a good way to end that show, but then when I saw it a few times after at other shows on the next tour, it wasn't as good. Then again, like you, not the biggest Springsteen fan, there are a lot of them.Cincy'sOwnDrunk wrote:HD18JBGuy wrote:Good point, it did get the crowd going, but like you, I didn't love it.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:I *really* disliked this one, too (Rainy Day Women). I'm not a huge Beatles fan or anything, but I liked it live (in ATL). And, for my money, it beats Glory Days any day of the week!

Re: Yellow Submarine
It didn't seem to make a difference... whether over the radio waves or live - I still didn't like it. Sorry..I just don't think it works for Jimmy and the band. But there are very few Beatle's covers that I do like...sooo...that's just my opinion. If they enjoy doing it... let 'em do it. I'll still be out there dancin' my fool a$$ off.

Hell, a live cut of "Here We Are" with Billy Payne backing Utley on keyboards would be incredible and a lot better use of the time.

Re: Yellow Submarine
Nah, don't want to hear this live, unless I'm at a concert by Ringo Starr and/or Paul McCartney. Otherwise, no one else does it any justice.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
Life is short, live long!!
I'd rather be a wiseass than a dumbass.

Re: Yellow Submarine
really hope he leaves this off the list. It's worse than the Dylan cover.
Some of it's magic, some of it's tragic, but I had a good life all the way
