Just curious. If you've met and engaged in converstion with Jimmy Buffett, or if you actually know him personally, what sort of a guy is he?

But see, if you know him personally well enough to answer this, you're not gonna answer.
And if you don't know him personally (and I don't) you're not able to answer.

I met JB on the sidewalk beside the Boston Public Gardens on the day between Fenway shows. For the 30 seconds I talked to him, he was a baseball fan still on a high from playing Fenway Park. I'm sure if I'd bothered him beyond saying "hello and thanks for a great show" while we waited for the light to change, or been so presumptuous as to try to walk with him and his companion through the Gardens he wouldn't have been nearly as tolerant and friendly as he was during our chance encounter.

I'm sure we all know someone, who knows someone...for what it's worth, I can tell you that growing up in south florida in the '70s and 80's, I knew a lot of people who met him and - to a man - they said he really is very nice.
More recently, my god-brother was on a construction crew that was working on JB's house. When the work day was done, Jimmy came out of the house with beers for all the guys, had a cold one with them and chatted for a few minutes.
In 35 years of following him, I've never heard anyone say that JB was a jerk in person.

I have never met Jimmy Buffett. I have however, lived in both Miami and Key West. I know “My Friend Dave”, who was the sound man at Bubba’s and The Flick for years. He’s the one who recorded JB and Steve Goodman in 1973 at Bubba’s, that perhaps some of you enjoyed at Phlockers Gone Wild?
I also know Bobby Ingram, who’s been mentioned in a few of Jimmy Buffett books, for those who’ve read Buffett’s work.
In addition, I am also privileged to know, Bill “The Cox That Rocks” Cox who was a big fan of JB’s back when JB lived on his sailboat in Dinner Key, Coconut Grove, around ’73 – ’75. To this day he's thrilled to have played with him at a few late night parties back then and also mentiones him in his great song, ""Headin' Down The Road To The Keys".
All of the aforementioned recall Jimmy with a smile and usually a laugh.
In my years in Key West I also met quite a few people who knew Jimmy Buffett, back in “The Day”. Everyone who knew him at that time, all seem to share the same opinion of him today.

I know the guy who sold him his first airplane and now lives down here on South Padre Island.
From what he says, Jimmy was a real personable guy. That was a heck of a long time ago though.

Talkin' to myself again
wonderin' if this traveling is good
Is they're something else a doin'
We'd be doin' if we could
All the stories we could tell
If it all blows up and goes to hell
I wish that we could sit upon the bed in some hotel
And listen to the stories we could tell
Stared at that guitar in that museum in Tennessee
Name plate on the glass brought back twenty melodies
Scars upon the face told about all the times he fell
Singin' all the stories he could tell
All the stories he could tell
And I bet you it still rings like a bell
I wish that we could sit upon the bed in some hotel
And listen to all the stories it could tell
If your on the road trackin' down your every night
Playin' for a livin' beneath the brightly colored lights
If you ever wonder why you ride the carrousel
You do it for the stories you can tell
All the stories we could tell
And if it all blows up and goes to hell
I wish that we could sit upon the bed in some hotel
Just listen to the stories we could
Yes I wish that we could sit upon a bed in some hotel
And listen to the stories it could tell

I met someone once that said he met Jimmy in a bar andd Jimmy gave free tickets to his show and was very nice and talked with him for a long time. I met someone else who did lighting at one of his show and said nothing but good things about him. on the flip side my friends uncle met him once getting ready to get on a elevator and said Jimmy refused to get in the elevator with a handicapped person that came up. Oh well. No one is perfect. But for the most bart I hear nothing but good things from people that have met him.

Maybe Jimmy was being nice and just giving that person the room they may have needed in the elevator to be able to turn or move around.

Hey, welcome to Buffettnews, fellow Texan. I'm not as far SOUTH as you are, but venture down your way a bit!

Why wouldn't someone who knows him answer (unless they felt like they had to say he's not a nice fellow)? If someone happens to ask me about what kind of people my friends are, I'm happy to answer that they're great folks.
I'm not asking for his credit card numbers and home address, just asking what sort of guy he is in person.

Because people who know celebrities don't generally post about them at all in a public form or they will be quick to lose that kind of access.
