May Concerts in Question?

Post by wanderingtoes »

With the latest round of news this morning, it looks like May Concert schedule could be in trouble. The news seems to be turning more toward being safer means being in a less crowed space. Not sure if you saw VP Joe Biden today but he said he would not have his family fly and would not recommend riding a subway. This may be much worse than we know and a cancelled concert may be the least worry. Wishing everyone the best!

If we get to the point where JB concerts are canceled then we have a much bigger problem than canceled concerts....

I don't see it happening unless this escalates FAR, FAR beyond what it is now.

At this point I'm not changing my plans. I fly from BUR to PHX a week from Monday. I'm flying in the middle of the day, definitely non peak times for SWA. Heck, maybe my flight will be emptier due to people cancelling. Plus it's a short flight. If my flight gets canceled I can always drive. Although an 8 hour drive by myself doesn't sound very fun, I regularly drive 5 hours by myself so it won't be that big a deal. My flight was $110, driving will definitely cost more. Surprisingly, AZ has reported far fewer cases of suspected swine flu (last I checked) than I would have expected.

If I were scheduled to fly to any of the May concerts there's no way in hell I'd cancel as things stand now.

I wonder if Clueless Joe was sitting in the back seat of his chaueffer driven limo when he said this? Hundreds of thousands of people in the NYC area, and I'm sure large numbers of people in other urban areas, depend on mass transit to get to work. What would he suggest we do instead of commuting by train and/or bus?

Biden's office has clarified his statements:
"On the (NBC) 'Today Show' this morning, the vice president was asked what he would tell a family member who was considering air travel to Mexico this week," the statement says.

"The advice he is giving family members is the same advice the administration is giving to all Americans: that they should avoid unnecessary
air travel to and from Mexico."

"If they are sick, they should avoid airplanes and other confined public spaces, such as subways. This is the advice the vice president has given family members who are traveling by commercial airline this week."

The statement also refers to advice President Obama gave to Americans Wednesday night. He said they should take the same steps to avoid the disease that one would take to prevent any other flu: keep hands washed, cover your mouth when you cough, stay home from work if you're sick, and keep sick children home from school.

Before he was elected VP as a Senator Joe took the Train from his home every day to his office in Washington DC. I'd say he has some credibility on mass transit issues.

That may be true but he's not riding the train anymore. And to tell people not to ride the subway, which is what he said, not the spin that's coming from a spokesman, is ridiculous. Especially when his boss is telling people not to panic.

That's because he lives 2 blocks from his office.
He, again, spoke the common sense truth towards avoidance, ...but it flies in the face of how you keep our economy on track towards recovery.
Just like when we, as a society, are reminded in these tight times how we should be saving more our money, yet we're encouraged to SPEND in order to fuel the economy.

Wasn't there some bird flu last year that everyone went ape s h i t over? This is nothing. Again. Because of the media it's been blown past any iota of proportion.

Irvine cancellation? I raised this question a few days ago.
I'm not inclined to believe that will happen, but the show is 3 weeks from today....

...and look at the paranoic explosion that has occurred in just over a week!!

I'm just going to soak myself in cheap tequila, nothing can take hold when I take this approach :P :o

This is actually much worse than Bird Flu. Bird Flu is not easily transferrable from one person to another, the swing flu is mutated and passes easily from one person to another

I think Jimmy performing on stage with a surgical mask, might be entertaining. I think that all of the alcohol consumed in the parking lot before a show, should kill any strange viruses floating around

I'm calling BS here.

more easily transferrable - yes, the mammalian strains are always more easily transferrable
more lethal - no

"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institutes of Health published genetic sequence data Monday morning of flu samples isolated from patients in California and Texas, and thousands of scientists immediately began downloading the information. Comparisons to known killers -- such as the 1918 strain and the highly lethal H5N1 avian virus -- have since provided welcome news."

"the current outbreak of the H1N1 virus, which emerged in San Diego and southern Mexico late last month, may not even do as much damage as the run-of-the-mill flu outbreaks that occur each winter without much fanfare."

I'm not aware of a single death of an American to this disease. Until the border is sealed with mexico and travel is restricted to that third world cesspool there better not be any restrictions in our country.

We can at least guarantee Jimmy will mention swine flu 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times during the shows this year
