Re: Not happy about the canceled West Coast Dates!
IF tickets were already purchased for the west coast shows, then yes, the fans who bought the tickets for the shows MUST be given an explanation for the cancellation. If there hasn't been tickets sold yet, then I think it's up to the performer (and probably pretty good PR move if they did give an explanation).
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Re: Not happy about the canceled West Coast Dates!
Couldn't he have thought that since he was just in the west, he (his company) just signed a new deal with the Dolphins, that he can afford canceling the fall west coast dates to not have a breach for the deal? I think he should re-schedule those dates, however, and it would be a good PR thing (although he doesn't have to) apologize for canceling the dates and promise to reschedule at a later time to be announced.ph4ever wrote:You just proved that what people in the South and West were raised to believe about people from the Norteast to be true - at least in your case and that's all you proved!!TommyBahama wrote:ok east coast is more important!!....you want me to say so you can believe it...i said it for ya!!!!!ph4ever wrote:No matter how much you backtrack you still are exhibiting the attitude of screw the west coast people - no big deal. Re: Not happy about the canceled West Coast Dates!
I've been scratching my head over this "but the tickets weren't on sale yet" angle for the last 1/2 day since the thread started. Frankly, I don't think it holds much water. After all, why should the purchase of a $130 ticket be the fulcrum between "you can trust the artist to keep their commitment" and "you can't trust the artist to keep their commitment." It seems a bit artificial, given the fact that tickets are now purchased via tickemaster or livenation, which reverse the charges almost immediately when a concert is cancelled (I've encountered it a couple of times).
This especially comes into play with a day like the Vegas shows (which is where I got caught). I'll say upfront that, if Mr. Buffett had simply pulled the shows in April, rather than waiting until early May, I could have re-arranged my plans (not sure about others in the group I was going with) and made it to that concert. As it was, the concert shift happened inside the 14-day advance purchase rules, which would make airfare pretty pricey. Rooms in Vegas are easy to get now, so that wouldn't have been an issue.
But the point is that you have to be able to count (I'm avoiding the world rely which some interpret as having a legal connotation) on the artist who announces shows without any conditions or reservations or caveats or anything like that to pretty much keep their commitment. If the announcements were premature (i.e., didn't have the agreements with the venue), well, shame on you and fess up to it. But I really struggle with being able to say "tickets weren't on sale yet, so screw you."
Not sure about the sales angle, at least with Vegas. It's pretty obvious that the LV PH's couldn't fill up the MGM three times, but I know a ton of folks who, despite the economy, were planning to be in Vegas for the fall shows like they do every year. They kind of plan it as a vacation. Some were going to cut the stay a bit shorter, some were planning to lay off the gambling some, and some were saving tons on room rates (really cheap this year). But they were going. The May show popped up, folks thought about it some and said "I'd rather go in October." It's a routine thing.
So we're feeling a bit burned over this. Not because the concerts were cancelled (well, maybe a bit) -- because stuff does happen. But it's more the way it came down and the cavalier tone which is set by being incommunicado.
As for me, I'll be in Vegas in a few weeks for business. Not sure that I'll be going to Margaritaville this trip to eat/drink/buy things I don't really need. Maybe I'll change my mind. If Mohegan plays out, I may or may not try to get a ticket there. I could just go hang for the tailgate. Right now, JB to me is feeling like just any other concert where if I feel like it when tix come up, I'll grab them. The fire is out, at least for a bit.
Oh..and I'm about as far east as you can get and only a few hours away from as far north as you can get. So I don't think it's an east/west issue. Although, I do agree the Boston guys would be ticked if their concert got pulled (and they tend to hurt people when they're ticked off). You kind of have to wonder if that's why Boston was moved from it's historical place around Labor Day to earlier in the summer (or if everyone was just thinking about that tropical storm issue last year).
Sorry to be longwinded. I'll shut up now and feed the dogs.

Re: Not happy about the canceled West Coast Dates!
As an east coast Parrothead(Boston) I purposely did not get tickets for Great Woods because we were going to Vegas(5th time) in October. Jimmy announces all the dates himself so when they were pulled I think the least he could have done was say something about why. This is about an artists integrity especially an artist with one of the most loyal fan bases there is. When you yourself announce your own tour dates, then dates are pulled from YOUR website without one single word of explanation then YES you should expect a backlash no matter what friggin part of the country is or isnt affected. Jimmy knows damm right well people travel for his shows especially the Vegas ones. So Jimmy, I, like a lot of Parrotheads await the explanation. BTW those whose argue "well the tickets werent onsale" I say to you to tell me the last time he announced fall dates for the west coast then cancelled ? And sorry east coast fans but if he did this bs to east coast dates youd all be having s#it fits !

So I've got this recording of the Charlotte concert from Radio Margaritaville. I'm thinking that on 10/17, we all gather where the street party is held, put the concert on an MP3 player and fire up a portable speaker. We can get a 12 pack from the local store and have our own concert......MaParrotheads wrote:As an east coast Parrothead(Boston) I purposely did not get tickets for Great Woods because we were going to Vegas(5th time) in October. Re: Not happy about the canceled West Coast Dates!
I've been reading back and see that many of you have the same attitude and I wish to address this.
Just because you don't commit until you can buy your ticket does not mean the concert isn't on the schedule. There are a lot of people out money (Airfare & Hotels, etc) because they did commit on a promise of a concert made in an announcement made by Jimmy on YouTube. Yes I know they can always go anyway and therefore not be "out" the money. But if the reason you booked the airfare and hotel room isn't going to happen then why should you be expected to like it?
Try putting yourself in their place and see if you can't figure out why they are angry.
