thanks Brad...I needed that.

and I totally agree. I was really counting on that San Diego show, and while that might not mean anything to anyone else, it was important to ME (for reasons I won't go into here). Sure we can still go to San Diego and hopefully catch up with the SD crew for a phlocking, but the show was part of the journey for us. These weren't rumored shows, these were announced just like the others. Adding the caveat "subject to change" after the fact doesn't mean *****. I wonder what the tone of this thread would be (and how many pages) if it were Chicago or Boston or Cincy or Nissan....that were supposedly on the chopping block?
Maybe Jimmy's punishing us for not being true fans...

Look- it’s understood- this is a Jimmy Buffett FAN site. And none of us would even be here if we weren’t fans to begin with. And yes- it’s important to stand up for Jimmy and sing his praises and his songs and buy all his stuff and support the cause. We’ve done it for years- and everything points to it going on for quite a while longer.
But it’s also important to call a spade a spade. Nothing more to do about it now but sit back and wait to hear what Buffett Headquarters has to say about all this. I'm sure we’ll all survive the trauma just fine. But c'mon, Bubba- we wanna believe!! We're counting on you...seriously.

I know some of us wouldn't be as upset had we gotten an explanation within a reasonable time frame. If I'm not mistaken they were pulled off Margaritaville on the 8th, or that's the date I heard. I heard about it on the 11th and it was gone then.

The dates are gone from the list, but the video announcing them is still on the google earth plug-in.
How can someone watching the video call the tour dates "rumors"? That sure looked like an official announcement to me.
So.... guess we'll keep waiting for that explanation.

I don't blame any of you for being angry, but there are several posts that are aiming a good deal of that anger at the east coast. It's not our fault that Jimmy Buffett canceled the west coast dates so I kinda wish you'd stop taking it out on us.....

I think it is more directed at the folks posting "blow it off" type posts. And it is a valid point: if one of the big shows got shotgunned, the annoyance factor would be pretty high. I may be wrong, but the lack of an Alpine show so Jimmy "play two" at Wrigley wasn't met with a lot of "oh well, good for Chicago"

It's as if the west coast are the red headed step children that he doesn't want. It doesn't help that some of the east coast fans are taking the attitude of "sorry about your luck". In one thread it was posted that the west coasters should stop their crying. Some are trying to justify what he has done and that really doesn't help.

As I said in my earlier post, if he does not WANT to play the west coast, well, to each his/her own, I guess.
But this is not the first time Jimmy has announced west coast dates only to have them cancelled. (Disregarding the fact that he HAD to cancel the Mountain View/San Francisco show in 2003 when his mother passed away).
He posts dates for several west coast cities, the fans in the area get all excited, start making plans, submit their vacation requests, the anticipation builds, and then the rug is pulled out from under them.
I'm sorry, but, as far as I'm concerned, those fans have a RIGHT to be angry.
It takes MONTHS of planning for a lot of them to get to a concert, AND, as I've also said before, the fans (WHO PAY THE BILLS FOR YOU, JIMMY) are people, not a bunch of two-legged money trees for Mr. Buffett.
1)For the past several years, he's been saying there'll be a Tahiti concert. What happened?
2)Two and three years ago he said he'd be playing Australia that following winter. What happend?
3)The same time he ORIGINALLY said he'd be playing Tahiti and Australia,he also said he'd be playing EASTER FRIGGIN' ISLAND! What happened?
4)It took him FOREVER to finally get a date for this year's Hawaii concert. (Although, in his defense, as a former resident of Hawaii, I know how damn S-L-O-W those construction workers can be). (The reason he gave for the re-scheduled date was due to slow construction on the restaurant).
And now he wants to yank the chains of the west coast fans.
Jimmy,
I love you, I love your music, and I always will.
But these people have every right to be angry with you, and, as a VERY wise H.O.G. said to me last month, until you know for SURE these shows are going to happen, you need to S.T.F.U.!

This is all very interesting, and I am kind of sitting back and watching the madness.
Jimmy DID announce these himself in an OFFICIAL tour date release video that he and Margaritaville promoted, and the dates were posted on Margaritaville.com. Everyone always used to say "until we see it posted on Margaritaville....", well, it was. And I dont care what you say, that is official - so discussion on that aspect needs to end.
But, in retrospect, things can be official than get cancelled. As others have said, this is not the first time. BUT, I agree that there should be an explanation (maybe an apology depending on the explanation). Do I think there will be? No. Jimmy and his people have struck me over the years as "The fans will be p*** then forget about it" type of people. So, I really don't think any response will be issued. If there is one, that's great, but this organization strikes me as the type that hopes it will all blow over - which regardless of what a lot of you think - it will. It may take a few years, but it will.

Thanks RR, that's exactly what I meant by my post, I'm sorry if it wasn't clear. Jen, you know I'd never blame the east coasters for something they certainly have no control over. But face it, among *some* there is an attitude of entitlement that certain parts of the country 'deserve' shows more than others. And I'm willing to bet that those telling us to blow it off and get over it would be screaming louder than any of us if their precious venue was axed.

So why aren't we allowed to vent? Shows get canceled/postponed/rescheduled all the time, but there is usually an explanation when they do. All we're asking for is a little clarification so we can alter our plans accordingly.

I totally understand being Jimmy is the Entertainer/Artist/Performer he has the right to pull the plug if he feels it's necessary to do so on any concert. However, we the people/fans/Parrotheads are the ones who pay the tab that gives him that "Particular Harbor" of security that he has come to know over the years. I'm sure he appreciates it and has said so many, many times during his shows, and on Radio Margaritaville. We of course won't be happy with the canceled West Coast Concerts that we so planned for even with an explanation or apology. But, it would ease the pain just a little to know he really does care about his followers and supporters on the West Coast, East Coast, and all around the World. It's a matter of principle, professionalism, and common courtesy for those of us who made major plans based on the release of the scheduled tour dates we got so excited about.
I obviously opened up an entire can of Parrothead Whoop A.. when I started this particular post. But, the bottom line is; it really does matter when to announce or pull the plug on Major Concerts when there's a lot of planning, money, and feelings of people involved. If there's a major health issue, or personal issue that makes it virtually impossible to have the scheduled show go on it would be understandable for most of us, and we'd be supportive. However, what's been said in this thread by so many people points to the fact that we as fans don't own Jimmy Buffett or his schedule, and he doesn't own or control us and our decisions whether to follow and support him or not. However, we do share a common ground that make up the Parrothead World, and that should never be taken for granted by any of us including Jimmy. A logical explanation of the canceled dates would be most appreciated, and ease the pain a little. It can't be poor ticket sales, because we never had a chance to actually buy the tickets yet. So, there isn't anything to justify the cancellations based on "Poor Ticket Sales" or "Bad Economy"..
I do know most of us will continue to listen to Jimmy and Radio Margaritaville, and buy products. So, "We're Still Here" complaining and grumbling, but what else can we do? I just hope somehow it makes some of us feel better letting whoever know exactly how we feel!

As will I.
But he shouldn't tell people in various cities he'll be doing a concert there unless it's set in stone.
At least here in Bendover, Iowa we don't have that problem.
