If I were Jimmy's PR Manager.......

Post by mermaidindisguise »

Here is what I would tell him.... and this is what I would do if I were Bubba himself.....

So let's just say for the sake of arguing, that the shows were cancelled (if they become ophicially cancelled) because of poor ticket sales. Obviously they feel it is a better business decision to add the new dates/locations in FTL. I would do the math and show him what he will make at new shows. I would have him make an announcement to all Parrotheads - either through YouTube or his fan sites.... that if there is anyone who LOST MONEY due to booking flights or making hotel reservations to any of the west coast shows, they should send him the proof of purchase/receipts - as much as they can.... and he should reimburse them.

How much could this be anyway? There can't be THAT many people who already booked... he probably spends more than that on dinner out in a week.... He has more money than who knows what and I would think that it would be a very nice gesture and let people know he still values his fans. I can't remember how many times I've heard him say "I thank you all so much for making it possible for letting me do what I do".. etc..... well ... what better way to say "thank you" than to help out the people who shelled out their hard earned money to support his wealth.

Talk about a positive PR move!!!

Anyway - that's what I would do if I were Jimmy's PR Manager!!!!!

In this day and age of the internet, word get out to everyone online (not just parrotheads). He'd probably have half of the people who had booked flights to Vegas that weekend asking for money when only a small percentage of them were planning to attend the show. Since tickets have not gone on sale, there's no way to prove who was planning to attend the show and who wasn't.

damn you, REALIST!!!

:D OK - SO I thought of that -but I was basing my idea on complete fiction and fantasy in a world so perfect that no individual would ever think to take advantage of a nice man trying to make peace with his fans. I would love to hear all thoughts on "what would YOU do if you were Jimmy's PR Manager" - my only request is to try and keep it SOMEWHAT POSITIVE and not turn this into a I'm Po'd at Jimmy because we already have enough of those!!!!!

Oh wait - my SECOND idea to tell Jimmy ..... Pick one central place out west and do a FREE concert - the only thing that will get you in is wearing a t-shirt from previous concert or possessing previous ticket stubs. I'm sure this has flaws too but isn't it fun to brainstorm without BASHING!!!! and TRUST me... I do not have a lot of money so if I already paid - I would be p***.... Oh WAIT - Instead of giving money back..... he could make a deal with hotel and airlines to cancel/refund - that would handle all the people trying to con him because they wouldn't really want their flight cancelled.

Who even knows if these cancellations are Jimmy's fault? Perhaps the MGM cancelled the dates and without the Vegas shows, it just wasn't profitable to bring the whole tour setup out west for two dates?

If this is the case, Jimmy is not going to blast the MGM as he'd be shooting a long term business partner in the foot and possibly costing himself a lot of money (and fans potential shows) as a result.

Fans were clamoring at the beginning of the year to see the full tour in advance. They got their wish, but long term plans are always subject to change.

I'm just as disappointed to see the dates disappear as anyone (since I was planning to attend). However, after being there this weekend and seeing the turnout (or lack thereof), I have to be a realist as well and say its likely a smart business decision.

i would tell jimmy he needs to lower his ticket prices.regardless of this being the reason as to why the shows were scratched from the tour schedule.

Are we sure that these dates were cancelled because of poor ticket sales? I wouldnt be surprised if that was the case. I was at both the Phoenix and Vegas shows last week and I was really dissapointed with the crowd in Phoenix, and though the crowd in Vegas was small, it was very energetic for Vegas.

If I were Jimmy I would focus on the midwest, being from there I am partial, but I think an ideal tour would be

May
Jazz Fest,Vegas, Phoenix, LA, Denver, SF
June
Chicago (2) Detroit, Cincy, Indy
July
Off
August
Alpine, Great Woods, Jones Beach, Virginia Beach, DC
Sept.
Off
October
Florida, Atlanta, New Orleans
November
Paris, Tahiti, Hawaii, wherever he wants to go
December and January
Off
February
Indoors in the Midwest, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Nashville, Chicago
March
Off
April
Off

at the very least, as the fall dates were coming down, a message explaining their removal should have gone up, as well as an empathetic apology.

As you said it would be a PR master stroke (my interpretation)....
A case in point:
2 years ago I bought season passes at our local ski resort, as I have done for several years. It was kinda a big deal this year as all of the keets moved up in cost and it was 3 adults and 2 teens ($$$$$). It was looking like it was going to be a good year snow wise and we got our first weekend in right after the first of the year......we went up on a leasurely Sunday afternoon and by the time the kids were fitted with their gear we got about 3 hours of skiing in. The following week it started to snow and then turned to rain......and rain ....and rain......we all watched as the snow base got washed away. The resort never opened past that week for lack of snow.....

Now the ticket clearly states that there is no guarranty that the resort will stay open or that there is any obligation by the lift operator to do anything if there is no snow (Tough luck!!!)........ By April we had just plain given up and were looking forward to summer..... the next fall I came home to find a letter from the resort in the mail that had 5 new season passes for the next year and a letter explaining that while there was no obligation they felt that this was the right thing to do. :o :o :o :o

WOW

For me it was a master stroke...... As long as we are skiing I will support them (not only because I like the family vibe of the place) but because of this single act of covering the passes for a season gone bust that was out of their control....WOW...doing the right thing....Wow...what else can I say????

(OK now for the full disclosure....)

Yeah I agree with Dean above....how do keep from being taken advantage of..... And no, I had NOT bought air flight tickets yet (Though I did have reservations for airmiles tickets) and Yes I do have hotel reservations (though that is a no harm, no foul situation as I can cancell them without any penalty)

Sorry for all the angst that everybody is feeling...... hopefully we will be seeing JB next year....

Can someone please tell me where it says "subject to change" http://www.margaritaville.com/index.php?page=tour

Anyone??

I'm not sure what's more disturbing - people that don't realize it's a complete lack of disrespect for his fans and it could happen to your area as well or the fact that some people think Arizona has a coast.

On my ticketmaster ticket:
EVENT DATE & TIME SUBJECT TO CHANGE. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.
Furthermore, I guess people should be glad tickets didn't go on sale and THEN have the show canceled because also printed on the ticket it says they don't have to refund your money or even give you a ticket to another Buffett show:
IN THE EVENT OF A CANCELLATION OR RESCHEDULING OF THE APPLICABLE EVENT, MANAGEMENT
SHALL NOT BE REQUIRED TO ISSUE A REFUND PROVIDED THAT YOU ARE GIVEN THE RIGHT, WITHIN
TWELVE MONTHS OF THE DATE OF THE ORIGINAL EVENT, TO ATTEND A RESCHEDULED
PERFORMANCE OF THE SAME EVENT OR TO EXCHANGE THIS TICKET FOR A TICKET, COMPARABLE IN
PRICE AND LOCATION, TO ANOTHER SIMILAR EVENT AS DESIGNATED BY MANAGEMENT EXCEPT AS
OTHERWISE PROVIDED BY LAW.

ItI didn't ask what it said on your ticket I asked what it said on the Margaritaville site, even provided a link.

Like it's been said numerous times it's all about the lack of respect for his fans. It's been how many days since the shows were cancelled without one word from the empire? That's the problem.
