To those who lift me up

I'm a pretty lucky old parrothead. My spouse is practically perfect. My keet has grown up with a good heart and a kind soul. I have life-long friends, have found some wonderful friends here and I have a great job.

There are times, however, when the glass seems half-empty.

When the blues come calling, it seems my BN buddies can feel it ... and they do something about it ... Someone sends a funny PM, gives me a call, sends me a stoopid e-mail, gives me a blue parrot or puts a card in the mail "just because."

To those of you never miss a chance to cheer me up, I say thanks and .... I love you all to the moon and back.

Pass it on.

Don, Penny and Glenn: We've been through a lot in the past several years. Glad we were together for it all - good times and bad.

My BN friends have been here for me more times than I can count. In good times and in bad. Thank you all!

I couldn't agree more.

It's nice to be here at BN anytime but especially on those days when I'm having "one of those days". Even if it's just a phly-by, it is such a pleasure to pop in, say hi, and read some funny, happy posts from some phabulous people. Looking forward to meeting so many of you in person.

Here's a perfect example of how BNers "just know" when you need a lift.

We're having hard times at the paper and the troubles have nothing to do with the economy. It doesn't involve me, but it effects me. It's hasn't been a pleasant place to be for about the last 6 months.

I spend most of my time with my headphones on listening to Jimmy or WAR.

In today's mail, I found a bubble envelope from HawaiiBoy. He sent six CDs ... Willie and The Wheel - the Wilkes-Barre show from February of this year ... a Townes Van Zandt show from the Cactus Cafe in Austin - 1982 ... a 2-CD triubte to Townes from 1997 and - be still my heart - a 1978 Willis Alan Ramsey show from Memphis.

This isn't the first time that Kevin's sent me a little gift. A while back, he found a WAR recording from Tulsa. It's my "go to" place on the iPod when things are really bad.

I don't know where you got these latest recordings, Kevin, but I will be grateful to you for the rest of my life for sharing them with me.

It's amazing how healing music can be - especially music that has meant so much to your life for so long.

I'm listening to BALLAD OF SPIDER JOHN as I type .... my eyes are leaking, but there is a huge smile on my face. This CD has MUSKRAT LOVE - which I haven't heard LIVE since I was in college ... and, of course, ANGEL EYES and NORTHEAST TEXAS WOMEN (where he talks about the cathouse in La Grange being locked up/shut down). He really nails BOY FROM OKLAHOMA on this ... abrupt ending and all. I think it might be better than the one on the green album.

It's so wonderful to hear WAR before the pressure cracked him and he went inward forever. This is the way I remember him. Young, in good spirits, with joy in every note, even when he's singing the blues or a ballad. WAR has moved to Colorado and I don't think "Gentilly" will ever be released, so recordings of him performing become that more precious.

I haven't had a chance to listen to the rest of the CDs, but know that I plan on putting them all on my iPod and spending a lot of time with them in days and weeks to come.

Bless your sweet heart, Hawaiiboy. You made a real difference in my life today. I hope I can return the favor. ((((Kevin))))

Sure, there are some differences between us, I don't have a spouse and my daughter tries my soul from time to time, however I must say that I agree with your sentiment wholeheartedly. There are some really amazing people here who really care about one another and that is pretty amazing. In an age where for folks tend to ignore strangers, we have a community that really cares about one another, no matter what our politics or religion or gender or whatever. I know that there is community here that actually cares about each other. As an example, when Mel posted about her daughter's challenges due to a food allergy, everyone turned out and supported her. When I posted that my daughter had a similar issue, I received a tremendous amount of support, suggests and help from people I've never seen face to face. Until you face a challenge by yourself, you may never know who your friends are. All I can say is that there are A LOT of wonderful people here.
