We can really recommend the Hotel Cordelia as you get off the Roissy bus at the Opera and only walk a short way to the hotel. They spoke good English and were very helpful and the breakfast was good. It is also near the big department stores and the underground stations to get anywhere. The area does not seem seedy. It may be that hotels are more expensive to stay in around the Opera but we find it just so easy for CDG to get on the Roissy bus. Last year we stopped at a Best Western hotel near the Opera but it was not as good as the Cordelia. Just wonder if next month Jimmy will announce that he is playing another night in Paris and at the New Morning. If so there will be a rush for tickets for that venue.

Tripadvisor.com had a bunch about Hotel Carlton's. Anyone have any comments to help? We are just two older girls looking to see Jimmy and be tourists and stay safe.

so excited to be going!
Planning is all part of the fun.....
Paris is a beautiful and confusing city but so easy to get to know, so a few questions before I offer some opinions:
How long are you planning to stay? This effects where you need a hotel
We are arriving on Friday morning and leaving Tuesday morning, so that only gives us most of 4 days for sightseeing, etc.
Do you speak french?
We do not speak french, and LIPH says the hotel where he stayed spoke English and that was a big help in planning the day and getting instructions on traveling in the city.
Is this a first trip? If so you need to be in easy access of the main tourist sites
Are you arriving at CDG airport?
First trip and arriving CDG and would like to take the bus to Opera, which I understand is the Roissybus....
La Cigale is actually a good location as the buses to and from the area are fast, cheap and frequent but it is a little 'seedy' at night. In saying that I have never once felt unsafe.
Not familiar with the Hotel Carlton - I will check out the location
If it were me in your situation I would go with a hotel that gives you access to the tourist areas rather than worry about being nearer the concert venue. Paris is actually a much smaller city than you think and getting around becomes easy once you get your bearings. I think you are sensible getting the bus to the Opera as you will be getting off a long flight and dont want the worry of a new city and a new language when you are tired.
Yorkshire Parrothead makes a good suggestion with Hotel Cordelia. Not the cheapest hotel but it will be used to helping out non french speakers. The parisians arent actually as rude as there reputation would have us believe!!
Hotel Carltons is also a good location with about a 15 minute walk from the Opera and closer to Montmartre and the concert venue. I guess you need to factor in price before making a decision.
If you dont mind walking and using the bus these locations should be great.
You can also get the RER (city train) from the airport to Gare du Nord, which is pretty close to Hotel Carltons.
We are also arriving some time friday. We are driving up from the house in southern France and parking at CDG. If you would like to see a friendly face or just fancy a drink with someone who has done it before, it would be good to meet you.
There will probably be a few of the crowd in the city by friday evening - Dutch Harbour, Yorkshire Parrothead etc so a drink etc would be a good idea
Happy planning.......

We will be there on Wednesday..... so if folks want to get together for a drink ...Let's! .... unless there is a Friday show...in which case we can all have a beer or 2 as we wait in the que.....
Regarding Hotels....we have stayed in very expensive to very inexpensive.... and not disappointed with any... if you have the money and would like the pampering, well by all means.... after all...I think the French invented pampering... on the other hand, we have done quite nicely with 75 to 100 euro rooms, clean, nice staff and the front desk always speaks some english... but there are really only a few things you need to know.... Where is the metro? Where is the bar?, and Where is the espresso? anything else is just reduendant and unnessasary....

Just booked the itinery for Paris. Arriving about 10 on Saturday departing at 5:30 on Sunday, just one night (but it should be a well packed 2 days). Staying in Rue Victor Masse at the Hotel Magny Opera Montmartre. It appears cheap and cheerful (though 3 star) but hell, we'll hardly be there. It was hard to wind down and go home after the London concert so I'm reckoning this will be the same. But this hotel seems well placed for walking distance from La Cigale, Moulin Rouge, and the Eurostar terminal back to England.
No shoes - Couldn't get what we needed in the Ibis, otherwise would have joined you there (spent ages trying to get it to work for me). By the way it was good to see you again after Shepherds Bush. Chris.

I just posted this on tour dates and rumours
I think what all of us are waiting for Jake is playing on the 24th September at the NM, two days before Jimmy at La Cigale. Do we book to get there on the Thursday thinking they will play together or will Jimmy play on the Friday. something to ponder!

Me too Me too
We got tickets for Jimmy back in May. Would be nice if he showed up with Jake. That would really make up for missing him at Nissan.
Jake is a good show by himself. He was at House of Blues in New Orleans a couple years ago before Jazzfest.
Where do you tailgate in Paris?

Cheryl good to have you onboard.......
In past years we have just met up in the queue outside. There is a bar over the road where we have 'trained' the owner to serve us drinks to take away
Last year a new creperie had opened opposite the New Morning so that was a good place to go if you were peckish.
With Jakes show starting so late, it will be much darker and I suspect a different sort of crowd. Maybe we should just meet up in the bar opposite?? I wonder what time the New Morning will open - do you also have to pick up your tickets an hour before?
Not long now..................
