Might be interesting. I wish the Shipwreck Editions had gone farther than 2 books. I really like the binding and the format.

Re: Margaritaville Book Club
Wouldn't it be nice if Jimmy wrote one about his grandfather and his sailing days on the Barkantines?

Re: Margaritaville Book Club
I have an extra copy of Salty Piece of Land, and I wish I still had my copies of Pirate Looks at 50, Tales from Margaritaville, and the other one, all of which I gave away to brother or son or someone....
Anyone want to do a postal trade or meet me in Detroit?

When I was shopping at Margaritaville in Las Vegas they had Tales From Margaritaville and all of the other books you mentioned, so you can still get them in paperback.Snowparrot wrote:I have an extra copy of Salty Piece of Land, and I wish I still had my copies of Pirate Looks at 50, Tales from Margaritaville, and the other one, all of which I gave away to brother or son or someone....

Re: Margaritaville Book Club
So, Liz and I are doing a book/DVD exchange.
Seems like a good idea.
I still have a spare copy of A Salty Piece of Land: what am I offered for it?

My thoughts exactly........that's a story I'd love to read about!Wino you know wrote:Wouldn't it be nice if Jimmy wrote one about his grandfather and his sailing days on the Barkantines?
I do like the idea of a book club, I'm always on the lookout for another good novel. My reading allows me to escape the mundane crap I put up with every day at the office!
On most days I say: "Wrinkles only go where the smiles have been...."
Sometimes I can only say: "There is no dumbass vaccine......"
If something or someone gets you down, just remember: "In a hundred years it all won’t matter.........."

Its up on Margaritaville now. Jimmy will recommend three different reads each month. Anyone familiar with these first three?

Good thing you only try to say it, not spell itCapnK wrote:you were just dying for a chance to say Barkantines, weren't you?Wino you know wrote:Wouldn't it be nice if Jimmy wrote one about his grandfather and his sailing days on the Barkantines?![]()
I try to squeeze it in every day.
Barquentine (from Wikipedia)
A barquentine (also spelled barkentine) is a sailing vessel with three or more masts; with a square rigged foremast and fore-and-aft rigged main, mizzen and any other masts. Barquentines emerged as very popular rigs at the end of the 19th Century as they could carry almost as much cargo as barques or full rigged ships but needed much smaller crews....Their inventor, Richard Hall Gower, claimed that they could be worked entirely from the deck.
Today barquentines are popular with modern tall ship and sail training operators as their suit of mainly fore and aft sails can be operated with ease and efficiency but the single mast of square sails offers long distance speed and dramatic appearance in port.
Beautiful lines for a ship, too.

Re: Margaritaville Book Club
You all do realize that it only a matter of time before Jimmy's book recommendations
begin to top (gasp!) ...... Oprah for literary sales impact.
Then he'll launch "J" magazine featuring himself on the cover each month
a la Oprah's "O" magazine ......
and then ...... ?
Or perhaps he'll just partner with Oprah and together they'll take over the world.

(OMG ... THERE IS A WEALTH OF POTENTIAL BN CRITTERS' MATERIAL HERE)
