What's your pick?

I'd go with "Coconut Telegraph", followed fairly closely by "Floridays".

I'm setting this as a "pick two" poll just because I think they're both so good.

I'm glad you did make it a pick-two poll, because damned if I could choose between Last Mango and Floridays. They may well be the best one-two punch he's served up since the outlaw era. It's funny, when I first started listening to JB (early '90s), I was of the too-common opinion that the '80s were an awfully weak period in his career. Now, I find most of those albums are underappreciated in one way or another, and there's not one without redeeming qualities.

First two JB albums I bought where "Hot Water" and "Off to See the Lizard". I was actually listening to "Off To See the Lizard" this morning

I thing SOC is his best album of the 1980s - it's the most cohesive and has the best songwriting on it. I didn't know I could pick two. The other one would have been Hot Water.

It was difficult to not pick Floridays though - which I've always looked at as his 'getting back to being Jimmy Buffett album' after the awful Riddles and Mango albums (even though there is a clunker or two on it as well).

I've always loved Lizard but it just doesn't hold up overall because of the cheesy production. Great songwriting though. The first half of that album is quite good.

His most innovative album ever? Hot Water. Outstanding album.

1980s in order
Somewhere Over China
Hot Water
Coconut Telegraph
Floridays
One Particular Harbour
Off To See The Lizard
Riddles In The Sand
Last Mango In Paris

Floridays & Riddles In the Sand.
(Even though the song "Somewhere Over China" is one of my two favorites by him).

One Particular Harbor with Coconut Telegraph being a very close second. I really love the 80's Buffett albums!

Great to see "Floridays" coming in first.
