Your Top Five JB Albums

I was thinking of this the other day - what Jimmy Buffett album would I consider to be his best? And just what does that mean? His most definitive? It sure seems that Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes is that one. His best songwriting? A1A followed by...CIL,CIA. Every album from the 1970s has a great songs on it (yes, including Down To Earth and HCJ as well as Volcano). More so than the 1980s and 1990s and Twenty Hundreds (so far).

And how do his 1980s and 1990s albums compare to (most of) his 1970s albums? With exception to Volcano, all of his ABC albums are simply superb (Sport Coat through SOASOAS).

1. A1A
2. CIACIL
3. Living And Dying In 3/4 Time
4. Havana Daydreamin'
5. A White Sport Coat And A Pink Crustacean

Obviously totally 1970s tilted. Those albums, all the songs get 5 star ratings from me (except Margaritaville). I like some of the 1980s albums in terms of thinking they are really good - just not as good as those. With the 1990s albums it gets even slimmer. License To Chill is pretty damn good but I don't see that ever being considered a real truly good Buffett album, just as his only ever #1 album.

Only five? Hmm, I don't believe there's a single one that doesn't have at least two redeeming tracks. There are a couple that have only two in my opinion, but pretty much all except those have probably been in my top five at some point. If you ask me now, it's:
1. A1A
2. Barometer Soup

(That much was easy. Now it gets tricky...)

3. Livin' and Dyin'
4. Far Side of the World
5. Somewhere Over China

At this point, I always feel compelled to add that Fruitcakes would rank a lot higher on my list if not for the godawful cover of "She's Got You." Years earlier JB had observed of Patsy Cline, "There's just no way you can touch her"...yeah, he really should have taken his own advice on that one!

In no particular order, "Barometer Soup", "Coconut Telegraph", "Son of a Son of a Sailor", "Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes", "Fruitcakes". And really I have to add a sixth, which would be "Take the Weather With You".
