Chicago Subway

I've got a trip to Chicago coming up soon and have been reading up on the subway system. There is a train station right up the road from my hotel. So, the way that I'm reading this, it seems that to get on the train at the station next to my hotel and go into town, it will be $2.25. Then, to get back to my hotel, I can come back the exact same route going the other direction for only a twenty-five cent transfer fee as long as it's within two hours of my first trip and as long as I have a fare card.

Then, the next day, it will be the same price ($2.25 to go into town and twenty-five cents to come back--assuming my return trip is within two hours of the original trip and that I have a fare card).

Or, I can buy a visitor pass that allows unlimited rides for 24 hours for $5.75.

Chicago residents, am I understanding this correctly? Thanks in advance.
