Not necessarily retire, but turn 65 years of age.
In 1943 and 1944 we were starting to seriously mobilize for WWII....
and the birth rate has a tendency to soar in times of war. 1944 + 65 = 2009.
(see also the start of the 'Baby Boom' era).
