TODAY show in Key West Tuesday 7/28/09

Well... no Jimmy apparently, and a different date, but The TODAY show will be in Key West next Tuesday 7/28, and Howard Livingston and Mile Marker 24 will be on!

From the band's newsletter:
"The Mile Marker 24 Band will be playing and I’m going to make some two-stroke margaritas from the old Johnson outboard for Matt Lauer and Al Roker. This should be a hoot so be sure and tune in. Even better, why not join us live in Key West at the Westin? If you are in the area you have to come down and party with us!! Here is information from the official Florida Keys Tourism Website."

07/28/09 NBC’s “Today” Show will broadcast live from The Westin Key West Resort & Marina on Tuesday, July 28, from 7 – 10 a.m. EST as part of the “Today Takes a Vacation” series. Matt Lauer and Al Roker will showcase the laid-back living of the small Florida island and take a look at its unique residents, culture and landscape. Residents and visitors are welcome to watch in person at the resort located at 245 Front Street.

Segments in Key West range from exploring the region’s indigenous cuisine to shopping, treasure and even some of the island’s quirkiness. The Keys’ own “Howard Livingston and the Mile Marker 24 Band” is to provide musical support. During the “Today Takes a Vacation” series, “Today” will explore the down-home beauty of the United States and partake in accessible vacation activities in each location. The vacation series will explain to viewers and their families how to easily get to these destinations as well as others around the country.

Originally, the series was to broadcast in May. But, it was postponed because news coverage of the H1N1 swine flu outbreak at that time forced producers to change plans to better cover the health story from their New York studios. In addition to his duties with Today,” Roker is also to use The Westin Key West Resort & Marina as a location to anchor a new early morning show for The Weather Channel on Monday, July 27, and Tuesday, July 28. Beginning at 6 a.m. ET, “Wake Up With Al” is co-hosted by Stephanie Abrams and explores all aspects of the day’s weather. Residents and visitors are also welcome to watch these broadcasts in person.”

I got the My Space announcement from Jimmy too! I was so excited that he shows his support for Howard and the boys! I'm going to skip work tomorrow so I can watch live!! I love the Mile Marker 24 Band - saw them live at the tailgate party in Atlantic City last summer - I'm excited they'll be back there again this summer - and they are SO wonderful LIVE!

I'll be there in spirit - watching and singing along! Thanks Jimmy Buffett for showing that you support the bands that are coming up nationally, as well as in the Parrothead Nation!!

I DVR'd the show.......I just watched Al and Matt drink mojitos from Conch Republic Seafood.......I started to cry......

Man...I was *so* ready to fire up the blender and say "screw work" today. Especially after watching the Key West segments on Today. I think they did a fairly good job of capturing the spirit of the island.

Howard got a great segment with his Big Johnson (outboard motor/blender). Can't say I would have minded hearing them do a complete song, rather than just the tag of "Key West Time" over and over, but I guess when you're getting a shot on national TV, you take what they give you and smile.

The best part is that I was taping the last hour while driving into work, so I'll get to watch *that* when I get home tonight...drink in hand.

Congratulations to Howard and the band for making the Big Time.

I can't wait to watch this when I get home from work. After getting off in Key West every week or so for 5 months when I worked on the cruise ship...I miss it so much now!
