Funeral Song
Hi long time reader first time poster. I turned my uncle onto Jimmy about 3 yrs ago and like many of us fell head first into being a parrothead. My uncle died in a house fire yesterday. For his funeral we are wanting to play a song or two of Jimmys music, but right now im having a hard time coming up with an appropiate song and suggestions would be greatly helpful.

Holy crap, I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I think the best song to play would be whichever one was his favorite.

Re: Funeral Song
I'm so sorry for your uncles untimely passing. I agree with Jack - pick your uncle's favorites. That being said I also would suggest Lovely Cruise.
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

Sorry to hear about your loss...very sad.
Without question, "Defying Gravity" should be one of them. Listen to the "Live at Fenway" version in particular.
"Coast of Marseilles" and "Lovely Cruise" also come to mind.

Re: Funeral Song
The whole song "He Went to Paris" may not be appropriate, but I lifted my sig line from it.
"Some of it's magic, and some of it's tragic, but I had a good life all the way".
If you can work it into the eulogy somewhere, it might be a good fit.
This will be a difficult next few days. Take care of yourself, too......

so sorry to hear of your loss.
for some reason, I've always thought of SOASOAS as a mature, reflective song.
Defying Gravity would be my next pick.

Re: Funeral Song
Ouch...a little close to home. I'm really sorry to hear about your Uncle. We will be scattering my dad's ashes out on Nantucket Sound this weekend. For us, picking the songs weren't just about his favorites but the ones that remind us most of him - Last Mango, Son of a Sailor...we also picked The Cap't and the Kid and of course, Sending the Old Man Home. I'd had forgotten about Lovely Cruise, I think I'll add that one, too. I also like Breathe In, Breathe Out for any tragedy.

I am VERY sorry to hear of your loss.
I would suggest the same thing I asked my wife to do if I go first.
If there is a wake, play ALL of them.
Nothing but Buffett (trop rock) & The Beach Boys.
The final tailgate.

Pinto and family, I am so sorry for your loss.
Lovely Cruise and Defying Gravity come to mind, but maybe pick songs that mean something to you while trying to get through this awful time.

Re: Funeral Song
Tin Cup Chalice. How it progresses from "ly" to "get high" to "die beside the sea there" seems fitting for a parrothead.
Myself though I would want something more upbeat and sure to bring a smile.
I think La Vie Dansante or Barefoot Children would be great.

Lovely cruise is a good choice. But any of his favorites would be the ones I'd choose.

I'm so *very* sorry to hear of your loss Pinto. And yours too, La Vie Dansante.
I agree with others. Lovely Cruise and Defying Gravity are great choices, along with whatever were your uncle's favorites.
