Cincinnati Concert

Post by Flowerfield Girl »

We are ready to go to Cincinnati. First time ever. Been wanting to go for a long time.
There are many people that say this is the best place ever to see Jimmy. I will have to rate it along with the other awesome venues I have had the opportunity to see his shows. Where do you think it will fit in my list?
1. Alpine Valley (many, many times)
2. Wrigley Field (both shows)
3. Pine Knob (many times)
4. Meadowbrook (near Detroit in the early 80's)
5. Poplar Creek (near Chicago)
6. Holiday Star Theatre (early 80's again)
7. Indianapolis (3 times)
8. The Palace of Auburn Hills (don't care for indoor shows in the winter)
9. World Theatre (or whatever it is called now near Chicago, too many times)
10. Coors in San Diego (several times, never saw the crowd get into it)

I think the best time we had was Wrigley, but that's cuz we are Cub fans and spend the entire weekend in Wrigleyville. Alpine is the best overall ever so it will be hard for Riverbend to top it.
This will be our 11th venue so one spot has to fall out of the top ten . . . LOL, let me know where you think Riverbend will fall!

Fins!!!

I would rank Cinti as the best, although I have not been to Alpine yet, but am going this year. San Diego is good, Boston was good, and Merriweather Post was good. Blossom has been good too. Pittsburgh and Indy are supposed to be good places to see him too.

I've seen Jimmy at Riverbend 11+ times since 1996. Each time has been absolutely awesome. I look forward to it every year.

Cinci will probably rank right up towards the top, if not the very top, of that wonderful but incomplete list. You see, there's this place called Great Woods.....

Are you comparing based on the venue itself or the atmosphere. Most of the ampitheatre venues themselves I find to be pretty much the same. Other than Riverbend I have only been to Ford Ampitheatre for a Buffet show. (Timberwolf at Kings Island was better than Riverbend however). I have seen plenty of other concerts in other venues however. Tampa's was not as good as others but is basically the same. I personally do not care for any of the outdoor shows, but that's the arena of choice for most bands nowadays.

As far as the party is concerned, Lots at Cincy open at 8 am (Tampa didn't open until a lot later, was never really clear when they did, but it was allegedly at 2 and I got there at 3) making it one of the better places from that standpoint. However, you have to go across the street to tailgate which doesn't have near as much space as other venues. There is no tailgating allowed in the Coney Island lots, although if you just hang out quietly with a few people they generally won't say much, but what fun is that. River Downs, the horse race track next door, has been a lot more accomodating the lst couple of years as well, although they don't care for us hanging out at their Tiki Bar too much.

Enjoy, Flowerfield:

The weather ain't here and wish we were heading there.

Gotta respect Ohio for the support it has shown Jimmy and the props he has given back during the shows.

The skies are too clear lifes so easy today
The beer is too cold, the daiquiris too fruitiful
No place like home when youre this far away

cheers

Thanks! We are looking forward to it as well. It's only 4.5 hours, about the same as Alpine for us.

So 8 am is too early, would never make it that all day, despite the fact that "you can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning!" Would you kindly make a suggestion as to where we would park, how to get there and what time would be the best, besides 8am of course. We usually stay right at the resort at Alpine, so that is cheating as far as tailgating goes. We are bringing a Buffett Virgin and want to do it right!

You'll love Wisconsin . . . "you're in Wisconsin, nobody cares!" is usually the response you get when you are amazed at the partying that is going on!

Depending on how late you arrive, you may be able to find a spot across the street but you'll probably have to park down the side street a little ways (Summitt) because the lots immediately across fill up pretty quickly. River Downs (next door) has a pretty big lot. Never head that way so I don't know how quickly it fills up but there is also some smaller lots across the street. There's a bar next to the race track (AJ's) that is not too far of a walk. The Coney Island/Riverbend lots might be your best bet if arriving in the afternoon. You can always walk across the street to the parties. I always try to park as far back away from the venue as possible. It seems like getting out is quicker that way. Of course you should stick around and party across the street afterwards too.

6. Holiday Star Theatre (early 80's again)
I'd love to know more about this show. Don't see it in the BN set list or anything like it on the Jokelben FTP server. When was it? Set list? Recording?

That's what I did. Had me a packed cooler on wheels. Took the free parking in the Coney/Riverbend lot, then went walkabout acrosss the street. I never even made it to the River Downs parking lot (hung out at the beganniversay party for awhile).

Cincinnati in our top 3! For sure.
We found an awesome tailgating spot.
Had an absolute blast.
We took our 10 year old grandson and he was treated like a king by absolutely everyone! We weren't sure how that would go.
Thanks to Cinncy for the wonderful time.
We did cross the Ohio River about 20 times in 3 days.

Also Tucker's Restaurant is the bomb for those of you that aren't from the Cinncy area. We had breakfast there the day of the show . . . incredible food.

Can't wait until next year.
May be going to Alpine at the end of the month now!
