I miss Margaritaville....
Was in Key West over the weekend to dive the Vandenberg (awesome, by the way), so naturally, the iPod in the truck was set to a Buffett playlist or one of my other island music (tropical country, reggae, Jack Johnson, etc.) playlists for pretty much the whole time. Listening to the Alan Jackson version of "Margaritaville" from his covers album, I realized how much I miss the laid back original version of the song - wish he would drop the high-energy party style you see on tour now for this song and go back to how it was recorded; hell, I think the AJ version is closer to home than what he plays now. Just a pipe dream, I know.....

I couldn't agree more. I've said many times that the original version is sort of sad, while every recording after that is upbeat (including You Had To Be There). I like the original far better.

I agree as well. The original, the one you hear in grocery stores and dentist offices, is my favorite too. I think they just play it SO much that they have to do something different to make it interesting.
Same thing happened with Southern Cross. I am not a huge cover fan, but that use to be one of my favorite songs to listen to from Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and to see at the shows back in the late 90s. The band was in sync, Jimmy's voice sounded great, it had a great flowing melody. Now it is just a disaster and almost hard to listen to at his shows or on any live recordings post TTS.
I think he has done a great job recently with songs like Come Monday, Nautical Wheelers, Distantly In Love, He Went To Paris, and A Pirate Looks At 40.

Agree completely.
Also don't like the faster tempo whenever he does Jolly Mon now - the original version is much nicer!

I like the original better also. It grates on my nerves to hear salt, salt, salt!!! I would LOVE an acoustic version at the end of a show!!!
