laid off again
I spent 13 months out of work and landed a job in March. I got let go today. I deposited my final paycheck and came home and started calling EDD to see if I can get back on unemployment. I stated at 3:45. I kept redialing until 5 when they closed. No luck getting a live person. Geezzzz. I could recite the prompts…"to continue in English press one…para continuar en espanol marke dos." I swear I could recite the whole thing all the way to “due to the number of callers already waiting to talk to a representative…” that’s where I hang up.

Re: laid off again
I sat idle for about 8 weeks this year already, and the response to over 50 resume's, online apps, etc...pretty much sukked. I believe I got one.
In the recent past I managed a marina/tackle shop for over 2 years...and while idle, I applied for a PT stocking/bs job at a tackle store 2 miles from Merry Pier, pretty much had the whopping $8.50 an hour job in the bag until I filled out their application that had the question "Do you smoke?" He immediately got on the phone to his wife saying he thought he found someone more than qualified..."but he smokes".
Needless to say, I didn't get the job.
So, it's back to bartending on a boat, crewing sailboats/island trips/and back at Merry Pier until I win the lottery.
Hang in...

Rich, are you able to report your work status online when claiming weekly benefits. If so you may be able to re-activate your benefits online. We can in Ohio so maybe you will be that lucky. Check to see if this is available on the UE website. All we have to do is sign up for our account by using a our social security number as logon and the benefit claim number they assign you to access. I hope it is available for you. Good luck.

Re: laid off again
sorry (((hugz)))
last time I was laid off I didn't qualify for UI (2 days before Christmas '08) at that point I finalized my plans to sail to the keys.
make margaritas with those limes life hands ya
good luck with re-employment, I'll need it too- once I get back
I call my situation semi-retired or
independently unemployed

Re: laid off again
I HATE that every company thinks it best to let people go on a Friday. You end up like you did frustrated over the weekend unable to claim for unemployment for at least two days and feeling angry and somewhat powerless. I'm sure some study tells employers Friday is the better day, but having been there, I don't think so.
Good luck Rich. It worked out best for me in the end and I hope it does for you as well.
