I agree with you completely. I was at that show, and I had a blast.

I did notice one thing though which confirms my opinion that if he did not do any of the well known songs or if he left any of the well known songs out of the show the house would not be close to being half full. At the Detroit show when he was doing his lesser known songs I noticed people walking around, talking, and not giving a listen to the lesser known songs.

When I go to a JB show I know very well that he is going to do the hits, but when I least expect it, he throws me a few nice steak bones, and that makes a Jimmy Buffett show worthwhile for me to go to a few times a year. No, he did not mail it in, and I am pleased that he is still loving being on the stage, and he is still loving performing and having fun.

The thing about Frank and Lola is that its the exact same music as Pencil Thin Mustache! as stated by Jimmy himself!

Yep, when he said when he drinks too much he can bounce back and forth between the two songs.

I think that quote came from an East Hampton show.

Hang in there. They will go on sale. The rumour is mid September. I know how you feel though, because I really want Orlando tickets to go on sale.

No, they don't. There are artists Buffett's age and older that change up their setlists from night to night far more often than he does from tour to tour.

so....go see the other bands then...

I'm heading to the Labor Day show....will be my 3rd show this year, and I'm not the least bit concerned about the setlist...the two shows I've already seen, Jimmy definitely didn't "mail it in" so I know I'm going to have a GREAT time regardless what he plays, and I'll be singing along at the top of my lungs to SYKBH and spend the next week with a sore throat and a smile on my face.

I didn't say a thing about not going to see Buffett because of his setlists, I was merely pointing out that not "every band" sticks to the same setlist for an entire tour. Different artists do what works for them and their audience. Van Halen played the same exact setlist on their last tour (along with the same exact stage banter) but since I was seeing only one show on that tour it didn't bother me in the least. That's not to say I don't wish that Buffett would mix it up more because I do. He obviously has a huge following that go out of their way to see multiple shows on each tour. The majority of artists that have such rabid fans do make an effort to keep it mixed up to keep it exciting for them and their fans. I thought it was great a few years back when he promised to play an entire album all the way through but for whatever reason he was unable to follow through with that. Hopefully it's an idea he'll revisit in the future. Perhaps even bring in some of the musicians that played on those albums.

I know Jimmy and Bruce are a bit different, but this is pretty impressive:

“We’re doing tons of audibles,” Lofgren said. “Bruce will write a set list, but he’ll agree with me that we’re not going to follow it. He’ll grab a sign out of the audience, give the teleprompter guy 20 seconds to find the lyrics and talk through an arrangement of a song we’ve never played, not once, on the spot. And then Bruce goes and counts it off in front of 60,000 people.”.....

OK, so it’d be cooler if Bruce actually knew every lyric to every rock song ever written. But it’s still impressive to watch the guy taking audience requests ranging from the Ramones’ “I Wanna Be Sedated” to ZZ Top’s “I’m Bad, I’m Nationwide,” both of which he pulled out at his last Boston stops in April.

Amazingly, in the two months leading up the April Garden gigs, the E Streeters played 99 different tunes live, including 28 covers.

99 Different tunes...amazing....and the range on ticket prices $35-95 for Mansfield

But I don't LIKE Bruce Springsteen :D (thats why I live in VT they made me leave NJ when they found out!) I mean he's OK but I'd only go if someone gave me a ticket and it was close to home.

Key point here....TELEPROMPTER. Jimmy's said a bazillion times when he needs the teleprompter, he'll stop ;)
