Glad to post that my parents have been allowed to return to their home in New Harmony, Utah

The Mill Flat Fire in So. Utah had been burning since July 25th!! ..but was allowed to continue as a "controlled clearing event"
One shift of winds on Saturday and suddenly they were in the path of an exploding firestorm. Ridiculous management from Dept. of Forestry...
They just got the essentials and the pets and fled, and they were more fortunate than 5 other neighbors who've lost their homes.

It's getting to be a too common story here out west... we're getting no rain... everything just burns
I'm lucky my folks weren't victimized this time.. but I said that about them just 4 years ago, too

Yay Brad! I saw the news reporting on the fire in New Harmony and was afraid that was were your folks were, especially when I didn't see you around. But I am very glad to hear that they are okay and back at home.

I think the lesson in both places (and anywhere there is a wildfire) is to pack up and be ready if the fire is in your vicinity. I keep hearing folks around here saying "we didn't get enough warning". WTF??!! Were they living under a rock? And if you don't get evacuated, so what? It's better than losing everything you own.
