"When it absolutely, positively has to be there...
...whenever the Hell we feel like sorta maybe kinda trying to deliver it."
As you might can infer from that line, I'm sorta p.o'd at Fed Ex right now.
Springfield Armory shipped my 1911A1 back Friday; I had sent it back to them for repair. It was due here yesterday (Monday) morning. So I waited up all morning. No FedEx, no pistol. I got up at 3 and waited again.
No FedEx, no pistol.
I called Springfield. They said that according to FedEx tracking data, my pistol was on the truck and should be here by 4:30 P.M.
Four thirty comes and goes. No FedEx, no pistol.
I called Springfield again, and they said that according to FedEx tracking data, FedEx claimed my address was invalid.
I asked the Springfield rep what address they had used. He told me. It was not incorrect.
So I called FedEx. They told me that their system was down and that I was SOL.
I sat. I steamed. I sat some more. I steamed some more.
I called FedEx again. I was polite but VERY firm. This time they told me their driver had said he couldn't find my house. I said I'd ordered multiple things that were delivered by UPS in the past few years and they never had a lick of trouble finding my house. They asked where the house numbers were located. I said on THREE SIDES OF MY MAILBOX, RIGHT OUT BY THE ROAD.
The lady called the OKC office. She said they'd try again to ship that evening, and that the pistol should be here by 7:30 P.M.
Seven thirty came and went. No FedEx. No pistol.
I called FedEx again. They got me ahold of the OKC office. They said they'd never intended to try and reship yesterday evening, making what I'd been told earlier a blatant lie.
Upshot is, they are supposed to call me at 7:30 this morning (it's 7:02 now) with an expected time of arrival this morning. Having to stay up again pees in my Kool Aid, because I work nights and sleep days, including mornings.
But then, since they've lied to me multiple times in one day, I have no reason to expect that this little bit of info is the truth, either.
I think maybe my pistol is really with Tom Hanks on that darned island, and he's using it to shoot coconuts out of trees.
The moral of this story: I would strongly suggest that Springfield not renew their contract with FedEx, and instead switch to UPS.
Jeeze.

Tough break
I bet the driver will be in hot water...IF he still has a job after this.

At least when you asked FedEx about the package, they didn't say "What package?"

UPS isn't much better.
Both companies have made a ton of "improvements" lately in the name of efficiency. Unfortunately, efficiency to them means "How do we pad our bottom line" and not "How do we get the packages into the hands of the customers."

I finally got the package at ten this morning.
They told me that they're cutting back so the regular driver for this area only works Tuesdays through Fridays now.
Maybe that's the explanation.
But all's well that ends well, even if I did lose, literally, hours of sleep over it, waiting up.

Sooo......you're an expert on information concerning UPS huh? Care to explain to me how you got so smart?SharkOnLand wrote:UPS isn't much better.

Before you begin though, I should let ya know that I have been employed by UPS for the last 29 years and 2 months as a driver. Right now as I type, it's 5:01 pm here in western Pennsylvania, and I'm just now starting my LUNCH hour.
There's been NO improvemants in efficiency, just them putting more and more work on the drivers backs, and expecting it to get done faster and faster. I'm sure the same can be said of Fed Ex too.
Have a nice day.

I have been burned by both companies in the past. Both are good, both will screw up the most important package ever. The route drivers are the most important part of the system. When you have a good one, as a shipper/receiver life is good, when they are on vacation, sometimes things are different.

Exactly why I put "improvements" in quotation marks. To the higher-ups, it's more efficient, because their bottom line is better. To the consumer, there's no improvement, more than likely the opposite.Reefdiver wrote:Sooo......you're an expert on information concerning UPS huh? Thank You Skibo.....it's nice to know that the regular route driver is appreciated. Having been on the same route for the past 12 years, I know what my customers like and don't like. I try my hardest to accomodate them.....it just makes life easier for all involved.Skibo wrote:I have been burned by both companies in the past. You're exactly right. The upper management droods don't really give a horses arse about the customers wants or needs anymore. It's ALL about the bottom line and that means $$$. Honestly, the worst thing UPS ever did was go public with our stock. Things have changed dramatically since then. As one who deals with UPS and FedEx daily, I admire the DRIVERS and their hard work. THEY are the ones who work their asses off.

I just LOVE my Fed Ex and UPS drivers. They bring me my bead fixes on a regular basis. I have never had a delivery go astray nor even be later than what the tracking day on the internet says.

I have no qualms with the drivers. They're great. And overworked. I got a package delivered to my house at 9 PM last night...

I've always loved my UPS drivers - they're friendly, and cutie pies!!! Love the shorts!! FedEx guys aren't bad either but they're no UPS. ![battingeyes [smilie=battingeyes.gif]](./images/smilies/battingeyes.gif)

If your profile didn't say "Pittsburgh" I'd swear you were my NY UPS driver friend. He says the same thing; more and more and more work laid on the drivers.....Reefdiver wrote:You're exactly right. Glad you finally got your pistol.
Would it be nosy of me to ask why you needed it so fast ? Is it part of your job ? Sorry, I don't know the circumstances.
Thank goodness you didn't have to resort to using a bow and arrow !
