If you met Jimmy, what would you say?
I've always thought about what I'd ask/say to famous people if I met them. Granted, I wouldn't want to come off as an idiot fan and ask something stupid, but if given the opportunity to meet Jimmy, how would I approach him and what would I say?
So I throw it out to the Parrothead Nation. Say you've got a few minutes with JB, what would you ask him? Would it be about his career, songs, businesses, the next book?

Probably just thank him for the music and the shows.
And maybe ask him whom, if anyone, he would like to collaborate with but hasn't had the chance yet.

Re: If you met Jimmy, what would you say?
It of course would depend on which Jimmy now wouldn't it?
example...
Jimmy Carter - Good job sir, I really mean it.
Jimmy Dean - Got any sausage?
Jimmy Hoffa - HOLY SHEITE what the heck happened to you?????

1. Why do you say you're going to do stuff during the shows then never do that stuff?
2. Do you really think it was smart to say in one of the pre-show interviews earlier in the tour, and use the same line in the lyrics to "Summerzcool", that you're not participating in the recession when so many of your fans, who aren't out of touch millionaires, have no choice but to participate?
3. How does it feel to be a corporate shill slapping your brand on anything and everything as long as the right numbers are on the check?
4. why do you do so many cover tunes instead of doing some of your own great old songs that you never play anymore?

I've never met him and I don't really care if I ever do. If I do, it won't be a life changing experience. If I don't, it won't leave me with an empty feeling.springparrot wrote:sooooo what did you say to him?LIPH wrote:1. Why do you say you're going to do stuff during the shows then never do that stuff?

Re: If you met Jimmy, what would you say?
He came to the front of the stage at the end of the show and was signing autographs. I stuck my ticket in front of him, asked him to sign it and he did. But I don't consider that a "meeting". I also shook his hand when he came off the stage at the end of last year's Jones Beach show but that wasn't a "meeting" either. I've never had a chance to talk to him.

Re: If you met Jimmy, what would you say?
Depends on the situation.
There's chance meetings on the street without bodyguards or crowds (ok this was 20 years ago) vs. quick sign my ticket autograph moments.
There's pre-arranged meetings with lots of others (book signings) where you have a few moments to exchange conversations.
There's pre-arranged longer meet and greet and photo ops (remember Dawgfan's experience?). Dawgfan had nothing but good things to say about his interaction (Jimmy also left a message on his answering machine).
I've been fortunate enough to exchange a few short conversations with Jimmy over the years. It was generally small talk banter. Obviously only I remember the conversation (though he *pretended* once to remember when I showed him a photo of the two of us together taken in 1989 that I later asked him to autograph when I met him again at a book signing several years later).
Always thought it would be cool to see him in the lineup waiting on a wave at the outer banks one day. Surfer's code would prevail (very little chit chat). Just a couple of surfers in the lineup.

Re: If you met Jimmy, what would you say?
(Standing at a red light on Boyleston St in Boston, the morning after the first Fenway show): "So, how does it feel to be a baseball fan and have just played Fenway Park?"
His answer: "Man, it was incredible!" (He was still pumped up like a kid on Christmas morning.)
Then I said, "Thanks for the music" or something like that. The light changed and we crossed the street. He went into the Public Gardens and I went the other way. No one else in the area even recognized him.

Probably just "Hi, and I really enjoy your music." If the situation was right I'd ask if we could have our picture taken.
