I've never used them but I've heard they do make your clothes wrinkle. Your clothes also weigh the same compressed so if you still decide to use them be aware of your weight.

I've only used the large ziploc bags for shoes, underwear, and night gowns. Don't want anyone touching some things when they go through my luggage. Never used the compression bags.

I've never had any luck with the compression bags. They look so nice and neat on the commercials...and yet every time I've used them the clothes have bunched up to one side, making it damb near impossible to get all the air out. I've had better luck with the packing cubes from Eagle Creek, but mainly I just stick to rolling my clothes. And Connie's right, the compression bags make you think you can pack more...but if you're checking your bag you may end up with an expensive overweight fee tacked on.

We always pack with Ziploc or Hefty bags. (The two gallon ones are usually good...you don't need special packing ones)
I don't think the clothes turn out any more wrinkled than when you just pack them without bags.
Put the clothes in and then sit on the bag to squish out the air. It helps keep the clothes sorted (either by outfit or by person or by type of clothes). I actually keep my underwear in the bags in the drawers when I arrive. For some reason I don't like having it loose in the drawers.
If ever anything liquid breaks or your luggage gets wet, your clothes stay dry and you can fit a lot more stuff in the bag. Just be sure to weigh.
We also put everything in our carryon in bags.

Carol, we roll up our clothes. Jim had done this on one of our trips and I kinda laughed at him. Then when I looked at his bag compared to mine he had much more room left and his clothes didn't seem to get as wrinkled.
Downy Wrinkle Release. I just saw the travel size at Walmart yesterday. Haven't tried it so can't say if it's worth the carrying in your quart size bag. I know I have no room for it in mine.

Jenny uses the compression bags. You might want to contact her on facebook.

thanks everyone for your thoughts.
i have rolled my clothes, sometimes with tissue paper. i heard that helps with the wrinkles. i was thinking of rolling the items, putting a few in the bag and then flattening them. i will have to watch the weight so i don't over and pay a fee.

I use them, but only for the trip back home (no worries about wrinkling) because I want to bring back souvenirs and stuff, it allows more room. I think if you pack them in the bags smoothly, then sit on them carefully, the wrinkling will be lessened. I love them, I use them in my closets for extra pillows, blankets, etc.....saves space.

Wrinkled tee-shirts & shorts?
They will look fine after the first 2-3 cocktails!

But what do you use to create the vacuum when you are in a hotel? Can't use a vacuum cleaner there.

No need for vacuum if you just use regular bags and the sit on method

It's totally worth it. I haven't ironed anything basic (I do iron dress up clothes) in years.

I use the squeeze-out-the-air ones. The noise they make when you sit on them to get the air out is entertaining.
