Tailgating Question
When I was at Alpine this year, I was amazed by the th do-it-yourself potties. I didn't see just one, but many.
How does one build one? And what type of container/reciprocal does one have on the inside? Are these contraptions widely accepted at all/most venues?
Thanks for any input.

Re: Tailgating Question
I don't know about the potties, but on a bicycle ride called RAGBRAI we see a lot of portable showers. Basically, they are a framework made of PVC pipe that slide into elbows and connectors much like the old Tinkertoys, and a covering of opaque material — like a tarp, a non-see-thru shower curtain, old drapes, whatever — constructed to fasten onto it to provide the required privacy.
As for the necessary interior implement, it depends on how fancy you want to be. If all you want is someplace to dispose of used boat drinks (no solid waste, in other words), a couple of empty plastic 5-gallon pails and some sort of seating arrangement

for the phemale parrotheads is good enough. Once the buckets are full, of course, someone has to schlep them to one of the more traditional porta-potties for emptying.
If you want to go high-tech, you can go to the same camping stores and find 'portable toilets' that have their own water supply and holding tank,

so you can actually flush the thing and carry the waste away to be disposed of later.

whatever happened to just sticking your goods inside the wheel well of a vehicle and letting it rip?

Re: Tailgating Question
I agree with sonofabeach, but it makes no sense for anybody to wait in line for 25 minutes for a porta-potty.......

Re: Tailgating Question
A 5 gallon bucket in between cars with blankets draped between them for privacy works well. You just have to remember to empty the bucket. It helps to be near a storm drain.

I really really really hope ( and I think you were) you were joking about leaving the bucket behind....that is soooooo the stuff that give PH's a bad name with the venues...C-Dawg wrote:Here ya go.....from Cabelas....

Re: Tailgating Question
I was so blown away by Nissan's lot the first time I went there - it was awful with all the trash left behind. There were several makeshift porta potties left.sunseeker wrote:I really really really hope ( and I think you were) you were joking about leaving the bucket behind....that is soooooo the stuff that give PH's a bad name with the venues...C-Dawg wrote:Here ya go.....from Cabelas....

Sadly, Nissan doesn't look too bad compared to, say, Camden, or even Great Woods. People are disgusting.....ph4ever wrote:I was so blown away by Nissan's lot the first time I went there - it was awful with all the trash left behind. I did that once with very bad results. I probably should have waited until the wheel stopped spinning….

Re: Tailgating Question
After this years rain event at Camden and bathrooms near overflowing its the whole reson we got a tent and portable toilet. At Nissan I learned that we need to put a luggage lock on the zippers for the door. People using the bathroom with out permission is ignorant. Then im trying to tear it down and some guy was like hey man let me use it one more time. I said one more time i dont even know you you shouldnt have been in there at all defore this.SchoolGirlHeart wrote:Sadly, Nissan doesn't look too bad compared to, say, Camden, or even Great Woods. Re: Tailgating Question
Here is our portable toilet- 5 gallon bucket with toilet seat attachment. Put a garbage bag inside bucket with a little cat litter. I usually double bag just in case. All waste and toilet paper goes in the garbage bag. When done for the day close garbage bag and throw in trash. The cat litter works wonders on odor and no dumping required
We've made a "potty room" with tarps around an open truck door. Privacy was excellent. This year we brought the car and tarps around an open car door aren't quite as private but it gets the job done.
