Thanksgiving
Making my list and the thought hit me. What do I want to use this year?
Well...(said in my best Bubba voice) I've been on sabbatical.

Re: Thanksgiving
I always brought out the china and crystal, but since my SIL has taken over, she uses paper and served in buffet style.
Sooo, our china doesn't see the light of day any more.

Re: Thanksgiving
It's a mix of "normal" stoneware and paper plates for us. There's just too many on either side of the family to have enough to go around. Plus less cleanup is a bonus.

Re: Thanksgiving
I'm having the majority of my meal catered. All I'll have to do is put stuff in the oven. I'm making a couple of dishes and that's it. We're not having anyone "special" coming over; although we will have some guests. Honestly I don't know if I trust them with the good china. I'm stuck.

Re: Thanksgiving
We've done it or been invited to places where it's been done all three ways.
But for me, plopping down with a giant paper plate full of food and a beer and watching football feels more like Thanksgiving than china and crystal

Re: Thanksgiving
That is what my hubby & I will be doing (except with Tequila & I'll pull out the Chinet paper plates -a little stronger) My cousin invited us over -sorry too many people, an hour drive each way(in the rain) and I need to be home for the Giant's game that night!!! Some things just take prioritypema wrote:We've done it or been invited to places where it's been done all three ways.

For special occasions, it's kind of nice pulling out the good stuff..I'm of the 'why have it if you don't use it?' mentality...even if it's just for yourself. But...there are those times that paper plates work too.

Substitute "Melmac" for "china" and I'm there.

I don't have "good" china/crystal.....so we just use the everyday stuff. I do try and set a little "nicer" table.....with centerpieces and all that jazz.....always looks awesome with my plastic parrot glasses.

Re: Thanksgiving
Quite a conundrum at our house.
I bought a set of fine china for my "future wife" back in 1978.
I didn't meet Connie until what 2002? I gave her the China the
day we were married. I had only taken one bowl out of the boxes
to show my mother until the day I gave it to Connie and we have
yet to use it.
The two guest we will be having for dinner
are not the type to even care what we serve dinner on so I'm
thinking "Not this year either" Let's just get the good Chinet Paper
Plates.

Re: Thanksgiving
not a conundrum for me - I had decided long before I put up the poll to get the chinet. I just started thinking when did I decide it was okay and how many others think it's okay toopair8head wrote:Quite a conundrum at our house.

If we have it at our house, it's usually just family. And we trust them. Well, with the china at least...

Re: Thanksgiving
My mom always used the good stuff. I do. My mother-in-law does. We even "dress" for Thanksgiving dinner. It's the one time Mr. Mathews' family is all together and we take loads of photos.
