Would you live next to your in-laws?
Looks like hubby and I may have a chance to live next door to his mother. I love my MIL and SFIL and BIL, but living next to them could be interesting at times, and present the obvious challenges.
The house we would be moving into is lovely (it is where Matt's grandpa and grandma lived before they passed away) and a much nicer house than we'd be able to acquire for a number of years.

Yes. Her neighborhood is lovely. And, although there would be issues, I'm sure we'd work them out.
Mr. Mojito would love it, too.

Re: Would you live next to your in-laws?
Tough call. To do this, we'd have to move 30 min from our current house, add about 30-45 minutes to our commute and ended up sort of where my wife and I grew up. We'd lose our neighborhood friends and our social structure.
Even with that, I'd move next to my in-laws. Babysitting almost all the time, my mil is a great cook and fil is really handy with stuff.
My parents? Hmmm...probably not.

Re: Would you live next to your in-laws?
It all depends on how well you get along with mom-in-law.
Based on my past moms in laws - OH HELL NO to one and Yeah no problem to the other. They were both different types of women.

You have no idea how close to home that hits. Matt's family is Italian and he has a younger brother.I'm an Altered Boy wrote:

In our case, the question would have to be:
"would you mind if your in-laws moved in next door"
'cause there is no way we are leaving Orlando to move back to Ft Worth or to move near Indianapolis!

Um no. Unless you were given the house, I think the potential drawbacks outweigh the potential upside.

Does his mother butt in with your raising the kids or decisions you make regarding your life?buffettbride wrote:You have no idea how close to home that hits. Matt's family is Italian and he has a younger brother.I'm an Altered Boy wrote:

Re: Would you live next to your in-laws?
We were looking at moving this spring anyway, just not to this end of town. It doesn't do much to our work commute, but puts us WAY on the other side of town from Victoria's school. Because it is still the city of Denver, she can take a school bus, but doesn't do much in the way of lessening her commute time to school and giving her more time to sleep. There's also a nice Catholic school nearby where we would want Tony to go.Hockey Mon wrote:Tough call. The work commute actually improves for us because we can take the Light Rail every day with ease, rather than driving. The neighborhood is GREAT and we don't have a lot of social ties to where we live now. And ample babysitting.

Re: Would you live next to your in-laws?
She offers her "opinion" for sure, but never overrules us. When there's an issue, Matt always handles it. She is kind of an "in your business" kind of person and we'd have to make her park her car in her own garage now, but her heart is always in the right place.ph4ever wrote:Does his mother butt in with your raising the kids or decisions you make regarding your life?buffettbride wrote:You have no idea how close to home that hits. Re: Would you live next to your in-laws?
It's a pretty tight-knit family anyway, and we're not exactly being given the house, but his grandfather owned it outright, so we basically get double the house in a neighborhood that is a million times better for the same that we pay now.SharkOnLand wrote:Um no. I lived in the same town as my in-laws, that was bad enough. I can only imagine living next door

Sounds like a lot of pluses and not very many minuses. Does this new place have a basement, and stairs to get down there? If so, I think that seals the deal.buffettbride wrote:We were looking at moving this spring anyway, just not to this end of town.
