Keet Generation
So I know this is kind of an odd question, but when do you think someone "graduates" from keet to full parrotthead? I'm talking about can a teen or someone of similar age be concidered a Parrotthead, even though they can't do all the drinking and whatnot at the concerts? I know Jimmys not too popular with teens now, but some of the keets from the 90's and stuff have been fans for over 10 years now, while some adults who are concidered parrottheads have only been fans for only 2 or 3 years.
Still, it's all a mystery,

Hmmmmm.....
I would think a 'keet could be a Parrothead. I would also think a 'keet could care less about *that Buffett guy mom and dad like*.
'keets are the offspring of Parrotheads, and are generally influenced by their parents Parrotheadiness ( a new word!).
LOL. And if your 80 year old mother is a Parrothead, then YOU are a 'keet too!

Re: Keet Generation
My kids are 17, 12 & 12 and are able to begin singing a Buffett song whenever I say a phrase or word associated with certain songs. I can say something like "I don't know" and quickly one of them will follow with "and I don't care".
Just last night the dinner table discussion led me to say "just make the whole day one big afternoon" when all three of them chimed in fluently with "We'll begin with dessert a little coconut tart...Mmmm tastes as sweet as a piece of your heart".
Yes, I'm very proud!!

it isn't about the drinking. it isn't about time in grade.sailorkid94 wrote:So I know this is kind of an odd question, but when do you think someone "graduates" from keet to full parrotthead? It's whether you "get it" or not. (and by "get it", I am talking about the philosophy behind being a PH.)

Re: Keet Generation
If you like Jimmy Buffett enough to know a boatload of songs you are a Parrothead.
It's not about how many concerts you've been to or being in a Parrothead Club. It's not about getting plastered (although that's always fun). If you are a fan (short for fanatic) you are a parrothead imo.
I considered myself a parrothead before I ever went to a show, heard about message boards or even read his books. For me it was simple...My dad bought me the box set and I fell in love with all things islands...POOF! I was a Parrothead. From there I got further in and now I'm too far gone.

Re: Keet Generation
I don't have kids of my own, but have taught one of my nieces about Jimmy, and a couple of years ago my SiL (who is a teacher) went in to set up before the school year started and took my niece with her. The other teachers were there also, and one was wearing a JB concert T. Hannah (who was about 7 at the time) went up to her and said, " I didn't know you were a Parrothead.....I'm a parakeet"
The next summer when I was getting ready to go to GW, she told me to look for Mrs. ????, 'cause before school ended for the year she asked her if she planned on going to see Jimmy that summer.

I think it's cool that you're here. Welcome!! If you were born in 94...sounds like you were born a KEET! 94 was the year of my first Buffett concert. :::sigh::: I'm 61, so I was really OLD when I "got it."sailorkid94 wrote:Finnsaremorefun that just what I wanted to hear. My keet is unquestionably a Parrothead.
He doesn't need to partake in the adult activities at the tailgates to understand the the meanings in the music and enjoy the lifestyle.

My parents are not parrotheads, so therefore, I guess, I'm not a keet.

Re: Keet Generation
A kete can be a parrothead. I've always been a parrothead, but I just did not know it. Being a parrothead means partying with a purpose and doing something no matter how big or small to make a difference in your community in order to make the community where you live a better place. It does not mean joining a club even though I love my PHC. It does not mean tailgating all day at JB shows and drinking which is fun if you pace yourself and remember the fun you are having. It does not matter how many JB shows you have attended. Being a parrothead is an attitude and a state of mind that you will get or not get. I am a Jimmy Buffett fan because I am a parrothead. I am not a parrothead because I am a Jimmy Buffett fan.
