What would YOU pick?

Put yourself in this situation...

You are going to have a "procedure". You will be in "happy sleepy land" for 2-3 hours. The doctor gives you an opportunity to bring your own music to play while you are "sleeping".

What would you do?

All one artist.
If not Jimmy Buffett or Ilo Ferriera, then my choice would be Acapito Bennington Smythe.

Beleive it or not I woke up for 2-3 seconds during my knee surgery, felt the most incredible pain imaginable, and then I was knocked out again... I have no idea how or why, anesthesiologist must of dosed off :-?

I'd go with whatever the doc likes best ..... if he (or she) is happy, they'll do a better job.

I had a miscarriage once and for the D&C the anesthesiologist asked me my favorite musician. When I was rolled into surgery Buffett was playing. Now - I think I'd rather have a mix.

Had that happen once too, a few years after the D&C. I don't remember pain but I remember grabbing a tube with my non IV hand and someone grabbing my hand. I've decided if I ever have surgery again I probably need to let them know. I'd hate to be having some kind of MAJOR surgery and wake up. That would totally blow.

Same here, but you really ARE awake enough to take commands somehow - don't ask me how I don't want to know anyway

One of my male friends tells me he was awake enough to yell "Take that f-ing thing out of my ass!" :o

Oh, and I'd go with the mix

I did the same, and yelled loudly at the folks in the room. :o  :o

And I'd go for a mix. :)

2 more reasons to continue to put off the colonoscopy besides the 17feet of tube up your butt issue.

All one artist. I'm pretty sure some of you can guess who that artist would be.

Barry would be my second choice.

I voted for a mix of my favorite songs.

However when this situation came up for real for me, ( I was having a heart cath) and the dr asked if I had any favorite music I'd like to hear, I said Buffett and he said something like Oh good! I was getting tired of the country stuff.

And they had a Buffett CD..can't remember which one. Even when you are awake during those things, you are still kinda in lala land.

And I knew NOTHING during my colonoscopy...woke up back in my room wondering if it had been done yet.

Oh and Connie, please don't keep putting it off. I lost my dear friend last year right after Christmas to colon cancer. She refused to ever have a colonoscopy. It wasn't an easy way to go....

I'd put my iPod on shuffle.

When I had knee surgery, and in the interest of full disclosure it was arthroscopic surgery, they didn't have to open my knee up for reconstructive surgery, I was awake the whole time. When the doctor told me I needed surgery my first question was "can I wear my glasses in the operating room?" He looked at me like I was nuts but I wanted to watch the procedure on the TV screen. He said OK and I got a spinal instead of general anesthesia. After the surgery, my back hurt more than my knee.

So far, in the realm of "procedures" that required me to be unconscious, I've had one colonoscopy and one surgery to repair the head of a fractured humerus. In each case the stuff the anesthetist/anesthesiologist gave me kept me so far out of action that they could have been playing the 1812 Overture (with real cannon!) in the room and I wouldn't have known about it. A headset with music playing would have totally superfluous.

I have also had a couple of repairs performed on me under the effects of 'local anesthetics', and I was happy to be conscious and able to see/hear what the doctor was doing. The fact that I had a great doctor (a GP — remember those? — who also had surgical qualifications) who was willing to answer my questions as he worked was a big plus.

I've had many surgeries :-? Some awake some in LaLa land. When awake I don't remember any music, but when I had my hip fracture surgery in Febuary, as they were wheeling me in to the OR (unfortunately I had to get a spinal due to my breathing problems) my surgeon said oh good we are in the premier suite -what music do we want to hear -& I said Jimmy of course! To my delight, the surgeon said -"I should go get my ipod" At that point I felt I was in good hands -he was a Parrothead!!!!!

To answer the original question -let the surgeon choose -(it worked out for me)

I chose other because for me, it would depend on what I'm going for. If it is for something "minor", then I would see if I could get a mix or a group I like, if it was for something "major", I would let the doctor decide.
