What Jimmy Buffett said at the Crossroads Taping
First Jimmy Buffett acknowledged the fact that Harry Belafonte (which I thought was awesome) and many others were his predecessor in the "island" music world. Then, while holding up an imaginary torch, he said he was "passing the torch on" to Zac Brown.
I was sitting behind Zac's father and Wyatt Durrette and Wyatt's mouth just popped open.
Then Jimmy quickly added, "Now, don't think that means I am going anywhere."
Zac took the imaginary torch.
It was a cool little moment.

Cool moment!
He acknowledged Harry on Feeding Frenzy many years ago so I'm not sure that's a shocker.

Not a shocker really, I just hear people all the time saying Jimmy B. started the Caribbean music thing...
I'm definitely a bigger Belafonte buff than I am a Buffett fan. It was very cool.

Paul, I cant believe I did not see you, Wyatt was in the row in front of me 2 seats down. I loved he was wearing an old style Braves hat. I thought it was cool that Jimmy said Wyatt has made it tough for them to go in a bar now because every bartender will want them to listen to this song he wrote.

Re: What Jimmy Buffett said at the Crossroads Taping
Can we get a comprehensive list of who-all from here was in attendance, and your location/attire?
That way when this is broadcast I (and maybe others) can hopefully match up some faces to the handles.
Or at least figger out if the poster is male or female.....

Re: What Jimmy Buffett said at the Crossroads Taping
do you guys have any idea where the margaritaville-elvis story came from? i assumed he was just joking b/c i have heard jimmy say in the past, he wrote it in 15 minutes, stuck in traffic. i just cant imagine he really wrote it for elvis, i did hear one of the ZBB members ask him if he really wrote it for elvis, but didnt hear jimmy's answer.

I'm not really familiar with ZZB except I've heard Toes on some TropRock stations. So I went to their website and listened to the Foundation album (you can listen to the whole thing, not just snippetsBigR-KyParrothead wrote:that was a very cool moment! didn't jimmy say he was passing the "tiki" torch?

While I enjoyed the album, are they really the "Heir Apparent" to JB? Much more country, not really all that much in the way of Carribean/TropRock.

Jimmy said when he listened to the Zac Brown Bands album it reminded him of his writing and what he felt like in his early years. He said when he looks at and listend to them he realize they are doing it their way, just like he did.

jimmy said last night margaritaville was originally for elvis
jimmy told the story with a straight face, in fact, i heard one the ZBB members ask jimmy if it was true, but couldnt understand what jimmy said.
that being said....jimmy had to be joking, just to set up the "elvis style" verse

Re: What Jimmy Buffett said at the Crossroads Taping
I agree. I've heard people compare their style of music to Jimmy's but they only have two tropical flavored songs. The rest is bluegrass and mainstream country.spartan1979 wrote:I'm not really familiar with ZZB except I've heard Toes on some TropRock stations.
