Tiger takes indefinite break from golf...

Post by SchoolGirlHeart »

From Tiger Woods' website:
I am deeply aware of the disappointment and hurt that my infidelity has caused to so many people, most of all my wife and children. I want to say again to everyone that I am profoundly sorry and that I ask forgiveness. It may not be possible to repair the damage I've done, but I want to do my best to try.

I would like to ask everyone, including my fans, the good people at my foundation, business partners, the PGA Tour, and my fellow competitors, for their understanding. What's most important now is that my family has the time, privacy, and safe haven we will need for personal healing.

After much soul searching, I have decided to take an indefinite break from professional golf. I need to focus my attention on being a better husband, father, and person.

Again, I ask for privacy for my family and I am especially grateful for all those who have offered compassion and concern during this difficult period.

This just proves how much of an idiot he is. Yes, people do make mistakes, however, if he had just come out and said he made a mistake when this was becoming a story and instead of letting the media control the story, then I think the public would have probably forgiven him, to an extent. He deserves everything bad happen to him when he didn't come clean in the beginning.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Way more importantly for him, reportedly his sponsors are rethinking their contracts. I think it's possible that Tiger kept quiet and hoped it would blow over so some of the really nasty allegations wouldn't come to light. If true, the latest allegations of paid prostitutes are pretty ugly.... :-?

I don't think his career will recover. He may play again, but he's lost the respect of so many.

Just like my Nan-Naw used to say, the bigger they are, the harder they fall - and Tiger was as big as they come in his world.

I agree with Tommy, he may lose a sponsor or two. He already has the money, when he comes back he will have to learn to play with being a crowd butt of the jokes like John Daly not the Crowd fav every weekend...

Now if I could just get 600 other guys to take an indefinite break, I might be able to make the cut in a PGA event.

yeah....somehow, because he makes a lot of money and has been in the spotlight for his chosen profession, he and his wife are supposed to be subjected to intense scrutiny and not allowed any privacy when the $hit hits the fan......sorry, I don't buy it.
He's just another schmuck that got caught cheating in his relationship. No better or worse than any of us that have screwed up before. Where is the story on CNN and ESPN about the redneck truckdriver that lives down the road from me that has been screwing the waitress at our local bar while he has a wife and 4 kids at home? Did I somehow miss it?
Maybe if the media and the public would leave him alone, he and his family could get thru this with a lot less anguish......but we'll never know, 'cause sadly we all know "this ain't gonna happen"
I was sitting in a bar this evening when this was announced. Someone at the bar said " It's too bad he didn't get caught the week Michael Jackson died, then this wouldn't be news. But, unfortunately, with Jon & Kate getting cancelled, and nothing else going on, he's the news of the week"
Sad but true.

Some reports say the Woods family is preparing to move, at least temporarily, to Sweden. In terms of trying to repair his family, it's the best thing I've heard yet.

Just a guess,
but based on infidelity and divorce statistics,
not to mention *life on the road* every week as a touring golf pro ..............
.
.
.
.
...... we'd be fooling ourselves to think Tiger is alone with this.
I'll bet there are a LOT of other guys out on the tour sweatin' bullets right now.

This in no way excuses Tiger's behavior ... but c'mon, he ain't the only one.

I agree, he's not the only one. But as C-Dawg pointed out, it's no different from any profession that puts one on the road. No one (well, almost no one) cares that the caddy of the guy who's a hundred and something down the money list is messing around but it's 'news' if it's someone famous....

Yea, I think a lot of celebrities think this way (about hoping things will blow over) but always get bitten somehow.

When I was going to school to learn to be a public information officer, one of the MAIN things they told us was "Go ugly early".....which, when not used in the context of a bar setting.....means if you KNOW the truth is ugly.....you out it, you control it, you deal with it YOUR way and don't EVER let the media find out the ugly truth on their own. NEVER give someone a bullet when you have a big fat target on your back!

Well, I, for one, would pay to see this guy play golf.
Apparently I'm the "lone ranger" here (not surprisingly), but he's lost NONE of my respect.
Disappointed that he cheated on his wife? Yes.

But if the entire world still holds a U.S. President in high esteem after he'd lied about his own infidelities UNDER OATH, I can certainly do the same for a golfer whose actions in no way affect my life.

I'd probably pay to see him (and the rest of the field) play golf. But he no longer has my respect. The future will tell if he is able to regain my respect. But it doesn't matter if he has my respect. It matters to his wife and especially his kids that he regain (if possible) Elin's trust and respect. I hope their family makes it, but it's gonna be tougher than anything he ever accomplished in golf to make his family well again.
