Well if the Insane Clown Possee said something, it must be true and represents the highest authority of music.

Clowns is exactly what those pinheads are (choice of words used for sake of keeping it clean on the forum...I have plenty of other words for those losers). Gaining respect and praise from "ICP" is the last thing I would want as a musician. If they are representative of anything Jimmy, please show me the first exit out of here.

On a side note, not that I am a huge Eminem fan, but I always loved it when Eminem ripped those guys to shreds in his songs. They never stood a chance.

I'm no fan of ICP, Eminem, or really any other rapper. All I was saying is Buffett gets a lot of respect for what he has done. I heard ICP being interviewed on SIRUIS. They said they took control of their career(Fan or not) and started trying to do what Buffett did. It was in no was an endorsement of ICP from me. Hell...Chesney's made a career out of ripping off his music & stage shows.

I gotcha. Good point made about Chesney as well. When you referenced ICP, I thought you were referring them from a fanbase context.

Interesting thoughts here. My own impression is that songwriting has never been Jimmy's forte...although he has written some outstanding tunes...but he's more of a "celebrate the magic of the moment" type of artist.

With that being said, I do think his songwriting has been a little spotty over the past few years. I was pretty disappointed with BHOTM, FSOTW, and TTWWY...some bright spots on each, but generally disappointing. LTC seemed to push his songwriting a bit...maybe it was the novelty of working with new collaborators. LTC seemed like highlight of the decade from my perspective until I heard BH.

One of the reasons I like BH so much is because Jimmy takes a few songwriting and style risks...some hit and some miss, but it does indicate that the creative juices still flowing. I don't see him as having peaked so much as working through something of a trough. Other posters in this thread may have hit on the cause of that trough - that there seems to be a shift in the direction of Jimmy's music. Seems like he's been moving from the Trop Rock stuff (which I dearly love, btw) and is returning to his roots (which is also pretty good stuff). Any shift in creative direction takes time and effort. We'll see how it transpires for Jimmy and us over the next few years...I definitely think he still has some high points in front of him.
