Best Xmas Movie

Post by rich_big »

What is your favorite Christmas movie?

I like Elf. The scene where Elf (Will Farrell) and Santa (The Great Artie Lange) get in a fistfight in front of the kids might be my all time favorite (family friendly) movie scene.

I am not a real movie guy, so I might be missing out on some good ones. Please let me know your favorite.

The movie "Love Actually" is worth a X-mas viewing if you haven't seen it yet.

It isn't Christmas for me without having seen at least one version of "A Christmas Carol". My favorites are the 1951 version ("Scrooge") with Alistair Sim as Scrooge; the 1970 musical version of "Scrooge" with Albert Finney playing Ebenezer; and the 1999 made-for-TV verson with Jean-Luc Picard (oh all right, Patrick Stewart) in the role of the famous skinflint.

And even though is isn't a movie as such, I urge everyone to try to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra's 1999 production of "The Ghosts of Christmas Eve" with Allie Sheridan, Michael Crawford, and Ossie Davis, with a guest vocal by Jewel. Check your local PBS listings for times/dates in your area. It is also available on DVD at various brick-and-mortar retailers or from online sites like Amazon or BestBuy.

The Blonde in Santa's Workshop. Hard to find. most of the old 8mm loops never made it to DVD, but this one was special.

She was a very naughty girl.. But, in the end, she learns the redemptive power of a red wool suit and black patent leather boots.

I'm with BB with A Christmas Carol...definitely the one with Alistair Sim is my favorite. It's A Wonderful Life is next...we need to remember we all touch the lives of others....and of course...A Christmas Story...I know it's corny...but I love it.

Thank God someone said Christmas Vacation. Right now that one is my favorite. Elf is coming close. So many quotable lines from both. Also A Christmas Story makes it in there along with White Christmas and last but not least Fred Clause.
