New Years Traditions , What is yours!?
We always have a big pot of Black Eyed Peas & Ham Hocks, Fried Taters and Jalapeno/Sweet Corn, Corn Bread and make enough to feed anyone that stops in. Just got a big ole Ham Hock from the Meat Market, putting it in with some peppers, onions and stuff to slow cook overnight in the crock pot to get some good flavor going...
So What is yours? My youngest daughter (25) wants to start something new along with the peas, she really hates black eyed peas. She always eats at least a spoonful or two though...
"HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE"
I will be so glad for a new start in 2K10, with all the illness & death we have been thru this year 2010 hopefully will be better.

Pork and sauerkraut! Big time traditional in our neck of the woods.

Black Eyed Peas, turnip greens, and cornbread are big in the South.

Re: New Years Traditions , What is yours!?
I don't really have any New Year's traditions to speak of.
(I still don't know what I'll be doing tomorrow night).
But I WILL be sad to see 2009 go. It's been such a fantastic year.

We always have ham and beans because my grandma used to say that if you eat a frugal meal on New Year's Day you'll be prosperous in the New Year.....haven't gone broke yet, so it must work!
This year, I'm burning the calendar.....unlike Garry, 2009 has NOT been a particularly stellar year for me, I WELCOME 2010 with open arms!

Black eyed peas, but I'm the only one in my family that eats them.
Other than that, watch the ball drop on NYE

View the fireworks display shot off of Grandad Bluff at midnight, then return home for fried egg and onion sandwiches.

Depends on my mood: sleep early and in (which happens quite often) or go out to a show.
Every year, the weekend of I'll go home to my parents house to have rice cake soup. We usually do this twice since we celebrate both the western new year and the lunar new year.

NYE we usually have a "snacky" type dinner...little sammies, little drunken weiners, chili puffs, artichoke dip...stuff like that.
I'm a native of Pasadena so the Rose Parade is a must for me. I no longer fight the crowds but still enjoy watching it on TV. The best years were at the office of my Dad's business associates...right across from the Norton Simon Museum. 2nd floor, underground parking, catered breakfast, real bathrooms, open bar and watching the parade from the balcony. Most of the offices on Colorado Blvd built balconies just for that reason.

Re: New Years Traditions , What is yours!?
We don't have set traditions. We like to try different things.
The wife likes to cook black eyed peas and greens but not every year..
One year I heard that whatever you are doing as the clock strikes midnight is what you'll be doing all year long. Anyhoo, as the clock struck midnight wifey and I were grubbin' on the living room floor. However imo the next year was a rather dry year compared to years before. Maybe because we forced the magic.
Last year at my house we had a big party on New Year's Eve, complete with dancing and lots of drunken debauchery. Heck, one dude even got teabagged when he passed out (not by me).....but this year I don't think anything cool like that is gonna happen.
Most likely it will just be me , wifey and son and that's cool too.
This year, like last, I may spring for some Pabst Blue Ribbon beer.
For New Year's day I have 2 possible Gator Bowl tickets but I'm not counting on it until they're in my hand.

Like me and 2008. That year S.U.C.K.E.D. (for me).pbans wrote:This year, I'm burning the calendar.....unlike Garry, 2009 has NOT been a particularly stellar year for me,
Sorry 2009 wasn't a bright spot for you. I just sort of decided after the b.s. of the previous year that 2009 WOULD be a good year for me.
But I hope 2010 is your best ever, and I'll be the first (on B.N.) to wish you a very happy, healthy, prosperous, and blessed new year.
