The following names did not garner enough votes to stay on the ballot for next year:
Galarraga, Ventura, Burks, Karros, Appier, Hentgen, Segui, M.Jackson, Lankford, S.Reynolds, Zeile

I wish those jokers would cut their crap and put Lee Smith and Bert Blyleven in.
Tommy John and Jim Kaat too.
And Ron Santo from the veteran's committee.
Meanwhile, congratulations FINALLY to Andre Dawson.

Congrats to the Hawk!!!...I just hope he decides to go into the Hall as an Expo rather than a Cub...I still hate what MLB did to Montreal

FYI, the player has no say over the team displayed on their bust. The HOF makes that decision.

That may be true for the bust, but doesn't the plaque and other materials that list his career stats, etc. have to reflect his journeys through MLB? They couldn't leave Montreal off of there, could they?SuperTrooper wrote:Congrats Hawk!C-Dawg wrote:Congrats to the Hawk!!!...I just hope he decides to go into the Hall as an Expo rather than a Cub...I still hate what MLB did to Montreal![]()

Re: 2010 Baseball Season
Interesting idea on how this will work. If they do this, the MLB should consider shortening the playoffs here. Also, where would they play? Let's assume they had it this year and the Yankees will play the Japanese Champion. Will they play in the Bronx or in a neutral site? Also, the travel will be a hassle. My suggestion for this would be one year, it would be in Japan and the next year the U.S. and alternate like that.

If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
Life is short, live long!!
I'd rather be a wiseass than a dumbass.

Unless baseball goes back to a 154-game season...which I could live with... but team owners wouldn't accept,
there's no good time left on the calendar. The WBC is screwing with our season enough as it is.

Re: 2010 Baseball Season
Regarding the hat Andre Dawson will wear into the Hall, I came across this on the Boston Globe website....
Interesting. In other sports sites Dawson has said he knows what hat he would like to wear, but is keeping it to himself. Personally, I think he should wear an EXPO hat. He played 11 out of 21 seasons there, was rookie of the year there, and it's where he made a name for himself. I believe he may have also repaired the relationship with the EXPO/Nationals organization. Last year he came to do a Meet & Greet here in Burlington, where our VT Lake Monsters are the minor league affiliate of the Nats.
It would seem an extremely unlikely choice would be the Red Sox. Dawson spent the 1993-94 seasons in Boston, hitting 29 homers and driving in 115 runs in 196 games while batting .260 over those two years.
But . . . we dug this up in the Globe archives today. It's from a Red Sox notebook I wrote on July 20, 1993. Check out Dawson's comments about the Hall of Fame then:
TORONTO -- Andre Dawson, who has hit more than 400 home runs and is closing in on 1,500 RBIs, is a likely Hall of Fame candidate, and when asked what cap he would wear if he makes it, Dawson said, "Probably the Red Sox.
"I've respected the way they've treated me and stuck with me. They've shown me a certain respect that I never felt in Montreal and Chicago. Just the way they pursued me in the offseason was an indication of that.
"I'm just sorry I haven't been able to produce for them so far. I think things are coming along. Adjusting to the American League has been difficult, and with my knee problem, it's been hard for me to push off and generate power."
The Expos recently retired the No. 10 Dawson wore in Montreal -- but it was in honor of Rusty Staub.
Dawson's prime feat with the Sox was hitting his 400th career home run. But it is interesting to wonder if he still feels he was respected more here than in Montreal or Chicago.

Re: 2010 Baseball Season
As SuperTrooper said, the Hall makes that call not the player himself. I think that policy started after the Devil Rays included some sort of contract rider that Wade Boggs would wear their cap on his bust after he signed with them. I'm guessing Dawson will go in as an Expo, maybe a Cub.C-Dawg wrote:Regarding the hat Andre Dawson will wear into the Hall, I came across this on the Boston Globe website....

Re: 2010 Baseball Season
Congrats to The Hawk...it's about time.
I don't see how the HOF can supercede the player's "identity", or how they go about deciding what team represents a player?

TAKE THE QUIZ:

When you finish the quiz and are checking your answers, the quiz writer cites the Wade Boggs/Devil Rays hat situation, but also mentions Dave Winfield and Gary Carter as possible reasons why the HoF Committee now decides which hat the player wears.
