so this thought has been floating around in my brain for a day or two.
these talking heads are paid to say things by networks that
need ratings to sell ads..
what if they are just spouting off to either anger people or to
get the fringe to agree..
what if the things (no matter how far out) are written for them
and calculated just to start people talking and in the end
watching (or boycotting) their shows.. no such thing as bad press..

I for one am not sure that Rush could find Haiti on a map.
mush less spout off most of the things he does..
(please remember that I remember Rush as the Kings announcer before he got a talk show )

Okay so maybe you have a point there. But then what kind of person does that make him if you are? What if he doesn't believe one word of the stupid vile he spews forth and is only doing it for the money and ratings. What kind of person does that make him then?

I had a couple of friends that taped (yes cassette)
his show and listened to it that night..
Me.. any of those clowns.. (right~~left~~middle~~)
I can stand for about .02 of a second..

Put me down as someone who has listened to Rush's show, as well as some of the left leaning shows, and as far as I am concerned, they are all full of donkey dung.
I have said this before, and fully believe that none of them really believe half of what they say. When Ann Coulter can spew hatred as she does and then date "a Jew from NYC" as she was doing, when Mary Matlin and James Carville can have a happy marriage and raise a family together while skewering each other on the airwaves....sorry, I don't buy any of what they are selling.
I swear if James Carville says on air that it's gonna rain tomorrow, in a half hour Rush will be on saying not only will the sky be blue, it's gonna be a heatwave...and the sad thing is, neither of them checked the weather forecast.
You're better off getting your information from Miss Cleo the woman that used to be on the Psychic Friends Network than believing anything that they have to say.

I was thinking more along the lines of 'performer' or 'actor', although 'media whore' could fit in this scenario as well.

sure, but the scary thing is that a lot of the scared paranoic, racist crap they spew is sticking in the minds of a lot of people.

The strategy of dividing people is not how you bring a country together to solve it's problems,
but if listen to Rush, or O'Reilly, or Beck, or Savage ...they'll have you thinking that the only way to survive is to buy a gun,
turn the lights out, and wait till the socialists come and knock on your door before you start firing

Can't think of any president in recent memory that didn't win an election without dividing people and pointing out the faults of the other side. Nothing constructive there.

March to left, march to the right...is there any other option? Both sides have their buzz "hate words" to taint the other side. We read them on these boards:
racist, gun-toting, communist, socialist, right wing, left wing, etc, etc.

Honestly as much as Americans like to think there are two political parties there really isn't. Not much changes from election to election. Since I've lived in America not much has changed from Carter onwards.

I've always thought of Rush as a master baiter (because of the way he likes to stir things up...)

I don't know about scripting, but I'm sure they have people who come up with ideas. The more outrageous and hate-filled, the more they like it. It gets people riled up and they listen just to hear the absurd stuff that is spewed. I know people who despise what these people say but they listen anyway for the thrill of getting riled up. It's all about money, ratings, and money.
