Any good Trop-Rock Bar & Grills in Naples?
Heading to Naples, FL and need a some good places to go and enjoy Trop-Rock scene. Would like to get some stuff to bring back to dreary, cold Southern Illinois to help remind me how much warmer it is somewhere else!

One of my favorite bar/grills in that neck of the woods is Doc Ford's Rum Bar and Grille on Sanibel Island. It's not really trop-rock, but it is a great SW coastal Florida joint. Randy Wayne White, the author of the Doc Ford books, is a part-owner - he references Buffett songs throughout the books, which are all set (at least in part) in SW Florida. Great food and ambience. It's up the road a bit from Naples, but there is another location in Ft Myers Beach - never been to that one, but I suspect it's top notch as well.

Don't know of any t/r bars in Naples because I've never been there...however:
If you're surfing the bars around the water, ask for a guy named Johnny P. When you find him, tell him his plumber from New York sent you to collect on the loan, and ask him where my tomatoes are. He'll look surprised, then buy you a drink. Works every time.
If you're successful let me know...he's a great guy.

I wouldn't call any of the ones I've been to "Trop Rock", but there's one that I enjoy going to when I'm in Naples - The Sunset Beach Bar at the Naples Beach Hotel and Golf Club.

At the SBB, there's usually a local playing a solo guitar, with good drinks and the best sunset in Southwest FL. The Restaurant there is called HB's on the Gulf, and the food is pretty good, and you can even get a table "under the stars" and "in the sand" although it's still up on their property, not down on the beach itself (maybe 100 feet from the surf though). I usually go to Naples for a week each year, and I go to SBB at least two nights.
The action stops there usually in the early evening, so head back over to 5th avenue or 3rd street for some window shopping/people watching and the later-open bars.
On 5th Ave there are several high-falutin places, but the irish bar McCabe's http://www.mccabesirishpub.com/ is usually a good time, and Yabba's on the other side of the plaza is fun. There's also an area near here called Tin City where the sunset cruises go out of, and a couple of restuarants right on the pier.
On 3rd street you'll find Tommy Bahama's and The Old Naples Pub. Two other's owned by the same people of the Old Naples are the Island Pub (looks fun) and The Village Pub (in the shopping area called Venetian Village) - but I've never been, so I can't recommend either. http://www.naplespubs.com/
Lastly, heading to the northern end of Naples is Vanderbilt beach, and the Turtle Club is a bit stuffy (and a bit expensive), but is also right on the water and has tables in the sand for those beautiful sunsets. http://www.windwardhospitality.com/naples/index.html
Lastly, and I mean REALLY last, there's a Joe's Crab Shack that is on a little inlet, but I've never eaten their either. http://www.joescrabshack.com/locations/ ... aples&s=FL
Have fun and enjoy the Gulf beaches.
