Winter Olympics

Post by drunkpirate66 »

I fear for the United States. I doubt that fellow US boys Jeremy Teela or Tim Burke can handle the power that is Ole Elner Bjoendalen in, what I consider to be, the best athletic competition in the world to sit for hours and drink beer as you watch: The Biathlon! Bjoendalen has 14 World Championships and 91 World Cup victories. I fear for my countries dreams. I am counting on you Teela and Burke! Please . . . please bring us the Gold. God speed.

I think we'll shine in ice dancing, but that's about it in figure skating.

I thought Lysacek was going to do it for us, but he didn't have it at Nationals this week ... Our girls will be stomped by the Chinese and North Korean ... we'll be lucky if any of them get near the podium ...

Unless the other pairs can't stand up, I don't think we're going to be competitive ...

Of course, it's the Olympics and anything can happen and I could be 100% wrong. [smilie=battingeyes.gif] [smilie=battingeyes.gif]

And the Men's hockey team is in for a rough ride. :-? But the Women's team is going to kick some ass. :pirate:

And I can't wait to see the luge, bobsled and skeleton. Those races are awesome.

Bi-athletes (hee hee hee, that sounds dirty) are wimps. a real athlete can keep his balance on a sheet of ice while wearing tennis shoes, pushing a broom, and trying to control a 42 lb stone that has a handle. Without touching the stone.

I will. I prayed for a water leak in my ceiling this weekend and it happened. So I'm sure I can get some snow to Vancouver.

Best hang over cure known to man in Montreal! Whenever I take my annual road trip up there with the boys Sunday morning is always met with Curling highlights in French on whatever local sports station is airing it. Great stuff!

But skiing with a gun for miles! What better form of television is there to pound beers to for hours?

They have plenty of snow in the Whistler area where the downhill
skiing and sliding events are. Lots of snow in the Callaghan Valley where they are having
the cross country as well.

Cypress Bowl on the other hand.....is in trouble at the moment.

I was born in NFLD...it's in my blood
Besides, I live less than 50 miles from the Canadian border and less than 100 from Montreal...we even have a small curling league that has started locally

As far as medals this year...they'll come from snowboarding....and I think women's hockey should see silver or gold but they'll face a strong Canadian team. The Chinese are gonna dominate, just as the old Soviet Union used to do.....and for the same reason.

2002 winter Olympics I was running a sports bar that had 70 tv's. Because of the time difference, the only event they showed live during the day was curling, and since we were usually slow on weekday afternoons, I had nothing but time to watch. Got me hooked.

Curling is a great sport. Lots of little curling clubs in northern MN and ND in the 70s and a whole circuit going north and south of the border. and given a choice between watching curling, or ice-dancing, I gotta go with the former. tho.. ice-dancing on the curling rink, with extra points for avoiding stones while performing the routines.. could be fun.

If we are going to combine events, I'd much prefer they combine biathlon and ice dancing. Of course, that might make a it of a mess on the ice. I'm not a big fan of ice dancing or any of the skating events that don't involve sticks, pucks or brooms.

Wow thanks!!

The news here has been talking about Cypress Bowl big time, however they also made it appear as if the whole area in general could use more snow. Then there's that Whisler bankruptcy thing going on too. The behind the scenes stuff is getting pretty interesting.
