I'm confused. You said something to the effect that someones benefit or lack thereof shouldn't be the basis of someones opinion yet you then state that you are a shareholder therefore your opinion carries more weight? huh?

Never said that it qualifies my opinion to carry anymore weight. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, regardless of their interest.

Said another way, people are jumping to conclusions based on what evidence other than their opinion that it will be a "bad thing"?
As a consumer, you are a stakeholder too...shareholder and stakeholder are two different things. What I do know for a fact, is that many mergers do benefit many different groups, including the consumer. As I also said in a previous post, some do not. Everyone forgot that part though, huh?
Point being...give it a chance before everyone goes ape sh!t over nothing. No reason to get worked up yet.

There's really a chance that they are just giving you a chance to clean up after a long day on the trail... but I wouldn't bet money on it.
Usually the first reaction is the right one. This has the whiff of disaster all around it, being sold as a win. Someone pushes hard enough, and your gut is telling you it's a mistake, it probably is.

On paper the merger should open the doors for competition. Some, including promoter John Scher, have concerns.
"It leaves the risk takers out of the scenario, the people who are risking money to put events on, the concerts the circus, the family shows," said Scher. "The people taking the risk ... don’t seem to have a say in what ticketing operation they want to chose. That, to say the least, is unfortunate."
I say the heck with all of the commercial crap. Support the not-for-profit arts organizations. Especially where funding has been elliminated or reduced.

OK my take.. and the (possible) (really?? Probable) fallout.
yep.. the prime seats will go up.. thus separating “the men from the boys”
In the scalper ranks.. So some of the pressure will be off of the tickets.
(for a while anyway the scalpers will not buy the bowl or upper seats)
So the “real” fans will have a chance at the good seats.. Those willing to pay
extra will have shots from the source.
But to be honest? A lot of people that buy from the sharks
Either can’t be bothered to keep up on ticket sales or don’t
Find out they want to go (think cute girl/guy announces she wants to see the band)
Until the last minute or those that just want to be seen up front those people
They will pay the sharks no matter what (thus keeping some of the pressure on)
The blowback will come from the artists (they have egos) (big ones)
In the “A” group that are used to seeing that the concert in “your town”
Sold out in 7 minutes or whatever..
Some of these shows will still sell out but it is gonna take a while
Between one-three weeks if at all.
Those artists will bark like a pack of hounds when they see the slow down (this will take
Awhile.. Maybe 3-5 years)
So.. At this point either the promoters
A. lower the prices across the board (yeah right)
B. lower the prime seat prices.. And raise the bowl seats
C. tell the artist that “really if you didn’t play in every town there will be less tickets
So we can they raise the prices.. Again”
My bet is on B.. with C. a close second..
With the “B” artists? They aren’t selling out anyway so they
Will either take it or move to smaller venues and work harder to make the step up
