Sorry to hear about the original party plans up in smoke, but glad to hear the derailed train is back on track.

Now, not to play favorites, or to really stir up any trouble (since I'm not a frequent participant, but I'll don my flameproof grass skirt and coconut bra just in case), it's been said there are 3 sides to every story - yours, mine, and the truth. So...

First off, I'd be interested to hear from the PH clubs top brass exactly the reason for the discontentment, and who and which group actually flung the p

p into the fan, and exactly why. Honestly, I can't see there being a big enough difference one way or another as to who went to which tailgate. For all I know, it was a club member who had a problem with what was being planned by BN, and brought up a stink with their club leaders, who then brought that to others. Petty jealousy just doesn't seem to fit in the equation for me. Or maybe it had something to do with If it was one club having a competing party, I might understand it. Or maybe I'm just naive. But I've seen Jimmy over 30 times in over a dozen different venues and I've never seen or heard of one club trying to crash and burn another club's (or anyone else's) efforts. Does that make me an expert? Not at all, and my only claim to that is having stayed at a Holiday Inn Express once.

And a couple of other points before I get back into civilian clothes:

There was a mention of Troy Allan playing a 'pre-pre' concert. That's a yard show at someone's home. You've been to these before. A way to get musicians some extra cash when they're in the area. The folks hosting the show have at least monthly concerts at their house. Sure, the TB club mentions it to promote it, not just for this one, but other shows as well. And I admit I do not know if the club or the homeowners contacted Troy first about this, but it's Troy who gets the benefit

And there was some mention of past strife in the TBPH club. I've only been here since last summer, so I personally missed what had happened. Power struggles, general club unhappiness, sabotage (well, who knows...) But I understand the club wasn't going thru the best of times, and the drop in membership shows. And I heard about the soap opera up in OH. But all I can add is I'm sorry if you had bad experiences with the club back in the day, and hope you give us another chance. For me, the club has been one of the friendliest I've had the pleasure of being associated with. There were clubs back in OH that I wanted to join, but Mr. Freeze was more warming. And it quite possibly was that the TB club back during the problems wasn't the best of clubs. There are probably people now in the club still not happy with it, but I have no complaints at all about how it is run and what they do.

So anyway, that's my $0.02. Again Adrian, I'm sorry your time and effort went for naught.

But the show will go on, the tailgating and fun will prevail, and aspirin and Tylenol sales will spike over the coming days.

And that's all I got to say about that.

I was shocked .. for a few minutes. How dare they?? then it hit me:

Maybe this will show some fence sitters that it wasn't me, just like I said, with the past BS concerning these people.

The only time there has been true controversy in the TBPH (besides the year they stole the ballot boxes at MotM in NOLA and then stuffed them so Vera won the title of queen ... that she still claims btw)

has been at the hands of the current admin.

First they came after me. Last year there was controversy over same said backyard's pre-concert party when the TBPH declined JF and Doyle's offer to play for them, opting for a "lounge act" instead and JF/DG was hired to play the house concert the same night as the club party. At the same time they were hard at work busting on SpOOner, FloriDaze and myself. Since FD is untouchable by PHiP, did they feel like they had to find another victim? Were we all considered competition? Who will it be next year? VPH for crossing them? Sad.

I always come by and hang out under the trees for a while, say hey ... gotta humor the naughty boy that MGG lets out when he's holding that glass.

I'll be there again, filling up my ears, putting a bottle on the bar for the party and adding to the tip jar!

Thank you Adrian and Renee for having the gumption to make a difference and make smiles! THAT's what being a PH is all about! Not causing riptides!

BTW .... Did y'all notice that John Frinzi is labeled as Sunny Jim and vice versa in their pre-concert party ads?

Adrian - I am so sorry that the plans you had spent so much time working on were beaten down by petulance. I'm glad we're all still going to be able to enjoy a day relaxing with friends in spite of some people's best efforts.

As I'm well aware, there are always multiple sides to every story, but I'm pretty sure the one that I've pieced together in my mind isn't that far off. I know I'm not that active around here so I'll won't step up on my soapbox regarding the tailgating situation. Suffice it to say that I will happily be tailgating with the VPHC and enjoying the company of friends I don't get to see as often as I'd like.

What I will say is that after years of being involved with the TBPH (even when living 700 miles away), last year I became so disenchanted with the behavior of some of the board members that I decided I wanted nothing more to do with them. That was a hard decision for me to come to since the club had once been something that I loved and I still count friends among the members (the ones that haven't left, anyway). The politics involved had become a distraction and I had done my best to separate the politics from the events. My decision to essentially disown the mutation formerly known as the TBPH came after witnessing board members (and non-board members) engaging in behavior that I found offensive, reprehensible, petulant and just embarrassing. These events were club sanctioned events that were open to the public and it wasn't anything that I would want a stranger to associate with me upon first meeting. We like to think of ourselves as laid back party people who love to have a good time. There is a huge difference between that and trash.

Subsequent to that, I posted for all our friends to join us in the lot for the tailgate party, and I was going to defray the entertainment/food costs by accepting $16 per person for anyone who desired to chip in, providing them hot dogs and gumbo. I full well expected to not be able to meet the complete costs myself, as the week and a half delay that I held back on planning was likely vital time necessary for those travelling a great distance to make plans while air fare was cheap enough.

The event information was subsequently shared via email with a number of members of the above clubs, friends and collegues of one of the club members, and apparently club leadership was upset enough with the goings on of our event which conflicted with theirs, that they notified the venue of our plans, and clearly have made this difficult for the venue management.

The venue management, which I have had no difficulties with, expressed their concern with a for-pay tailgate party on their grounds. I understood their concerns, and requested approval to pay for the bands myself, refund the 40 people who had paid me $16/ea, and just have a good time in the lot. The venue management has received lots of pressure and complaints from the representatives of the above mentioned parrot head event, enough so that even if I were to not accept any money, and were to come out of pocket over $1,500 myself, and just have these artists play a day of entertainment for everyone, that I would not be able to do so.

For what was intended to be a fun afternoon, it clearly is turning into a political fiasco. Some representative(s) from the parrot head clubs above are clearly upset that we were going to put on a show that their membership desires to attend, likely lessening the attendance to their party. Historically we’ve put on tailgate parties in both Tampa and Orlando and have never had an issue, but somehow, someone, has made this an issue to the venue management, and I don’t think they want to get in the middle of it and hear any more complaints from the above clubs.

At this time, I’m officially cancelling this event. I will not be organizing any entertainment. I will be there to tailgate, and if you’re planning to be there for the concert, stop by and say hello. I expect to park in the same area under the big trees, as it’s a nice spot to relax away from the sun.

This totally bites. Last year's tailgate was awesome with John Frinzi and the authentic Texas Bar-B-Q. I can't see how this is infringing on anyone's "turf". Honestly, I question the legality of this. But if they have the venue putting pressure on you, I guess the options of recourse are limited. Not that you would want to stoop to their level anyway...

Buffett tailgates are supposed to be about sharing, happiness and fun. I happen to be a member of the TBPHC and don't think I will be renewing my membership this year (was actually going to put the check in the mail tomorrow - just ripped it up). They perform a lot of admirable charitable acts and there are many good people in the club, but politics has NO place in the parrothead world.

Adrian, I apologize on behalf of the "good" Tampa Bay Parrotheads. Thank you for coordinating this and putting your time, effort and money into trying to make the tailgate experience more enjoyable. I can honestly say that last year in Tampa was the best tailgate I have ever attended and it was due in large part to you and your crew.

Thanks so much for your second-hand clarification on what Karacal or flipflopgirl meant!

So far, it appears that less than a handfull agree that it is OK to post screen names next to real names.

(And no complaints at all to MobileTikiBar for removing those first and last names so quickly! Thank you!)

But, in disagreement with those few, just because it has been done "plenty of times" before, still does not make it cool. IMO.

Gee GBM and MM do you scroll through random threads to start arguments with people? A lot of people call each other by their real names in the daily threads and in the concert threads a great deal of the time. and no one else in this thread seems to have an issue with it so why make one out of it????
