I am there! Got my lawn. Gates usually open around lunchtime...there was a rumor they were not opening gates until like 4pm last year..well with the parking lot on the highway..they opened around 12 or 1pm...

Lakewood Amph. is now Aaron's Amph. They may have a few changes this year. The always says gates will open later in the day but it usually opens at least by Noon. It depends when all of us crazies get and cause a traffic jam, which forces them to open early. About two years ago, they banned golf carts, which was always fun to decorate and ride in around the tailgate area. Lots of RV's. Great place to party!

I try and get down there at around 10 but it depends on the wifes work schedule. The past few years since the city of
Atlanta took over the place it has become a bit more difficult, gates don't want to open (until traffic gets so backed up they have no choice), no sand (don't know why cause its a large gravel parking lot on the one side), and a few other restrictions. The year before the city took over I ran into two guys with a keg of beer that had been there since the day before but they won't allow any over night stays now. Hadn't heard about no golf carts, Landshark had one last year maybe just for VIPs. Margaritaville has their Segway that pulls a trailer mixing fresh ones. Haven't seen the motorized bar stool in a few years but have seen the riding coolers. Haven't seen the 14 foot aboveground swimming pool either nor the volcano.
You do pay $20 to park a car, more if you have a large vehicle like a motorhome, bus or trailer (not sure of the cost, maybe double the 20). They park the cars where you do have enough room to "do your thing" be it cooking, partying, or etc and the motorhomes typically are set along the perimeter with room to open the awning. The Atlanta Parrothead Club does a setup along with a few other clubs and sponsors.
If you do bring a motorhome expect to be hassled.....for use of your rest room. They do have porta-hoopties but the lines get long. A friend of mine brings a bucket and a sheet for his girlfriend to use should she decide not to wait in line. (They open a car door and wrap the sheet around for privacy.) And always bring TP, around 4 it has tremendous value. And bring garbage bags, it gets to be a real mess and there isn't an excuse for it. Lot of free stuff to be had, leis, margaritas, and people are generous with their food.

And there is off-site parking too, private lots or fields that can handle over flow or those that want a quick escape at the end of the night. The general consensus is that the gravel lots off Lakewood Avenue are the better lots, the other choice being the asphalt lots off Pryor Street (this is also where VIP parking is). Getting to the gravel lots is easy, take 166 east till it deadends onto Lakewood Ave-go left, through the light and the lot entrance is on the left. It's not but a half mile to the east of the 75/85 connector.

A couple questions about tailgating though as we're new to ATL (we're Frisco Feeding Frenzy alumni)
-Assuming the weather is good
(which we really need it to be), what time can you get into the lots? What time do they fill up to a point where you can't really find a place to park?
-We have (2) options to make the party better....One is an RV and the other is a small but really cool small trailer built for tailgaiting. Will we be restricted or hassled?
Something else we were thinking about was finding a few more people and getting ourselves a party bus (i.e. "Fur Bus"). That could make for a memorable tailgate. Anyone interested in that option? Its about $1,500 for 10 hours......with a few others in it becomes pretty affordable. Maybe we could do a couple pickup locations? The logistics could be worked out later.
Can't Wait!
hey (whyknot1970s) I got there last year @ about 4pm and there was plenty parking. The bus sounds like a GREAT idea!!!!!! I got 4 folks here if you get enough jus let me know a price. The trailer sounds like a good thing too. Im gonna be there around 12 this year. ( its my wifes year to drive

)

Last year, arrived around 1030am. Lots closed, etc. started tailgating with others waiting for gates to open. Gates opened just before noon and no lie...saw a DRUNK guy get hit by a delivery truck on the main road in front of gravel lots. (he needed to pee) I thought he was dead, guy gets up, yells and goes to the bathroom. I can assure you his chiropractor is happy now. I still don't know how he survived....moral of the story....open the LOTS earlier so stupid people don't get hurt or killed.
See ya'll on the 27th.

I agree, but....when Lakewood was privately owned they would cater to their clientel and work with the city to try and coexist in the neighborhood. Now that the city owns it they cater more toward the neighborhood and the voters that live there and work to keep those folks from calling code enforcement, police or their city officials. That means keeping concert goers at a lower profile, enforcing quiet hours, enforcing liter and other laws. They really have no advantage in allowing us to show up early and in fact it costs them money having to staff the lots. The only problem that arises is the concert goers causing a traffic jam on Pryor and Lakewood (I saw some really p*** off delivery drivers on Lakewood last year). So the moral is show up at midnight and pitch a tent in the street!

A few of us are staying at the Comfort Inn, across from the Braves. Side streets to venue is about 4 miles.

My ringtone is Margaritaville......Have you ever been in a parking lot where everyother car has Margaritaville blasting from the trunk and you're expecting a call? Ya never hear it! At least thats what happened last year.
