I have talked to Titans/LP Field on the phone and was told tailgating in their parking lots is ONLY allowed during Titans games and other events at LP Field NOT before Bridgestone concerts. They were very emphatic about no tailgating for non-LP Field events. I may have to drive there and ask in person.

They are running a shuttle bus from Lot R to Bridgestone Arena for $3 roundtrip.

Here's what I did. I went to http://www.parkitdowntown.com/getting_around/BEEP/ and asked in their contact us section about tailgating in the LP field parking lots. If you'll read my post again, the person who email me back said the lots AROUND LP field that are ALWAYS open (pay to park places) will allow tailgating. Not the actual LP field parking lots. Since the lots are close to LP field, I just thought that we could walk over and take the shuttle if needed. Not trying to start a fight or anything, just trying to help out  Hope to see all of you there!

I have talked to these on the phone today (April 20) about tailgating in Nashville:

LP Field administration and Bridgestone Arena both sent me to Nashville Metropolitan Sports Authority for questions regarding parking lots at LP Field.
615-880-1021
I was told Lot R opens at 5PM (5) the day of the concert. The other lots are locked, gated and security on duty. Small groups of pholks hanging around Lot R having sandwiches and beer will probably not be a problem but setting up grills, shade canopies, etc will not be allowed.

Nashville Downtown Partnership operates the http://www.parkitdowntown.com/ web site
615-743-3090
Assistant director Erin Perry told me no tailgating. They are looking into posting info about no tailgating on their web site (is not there yet) or sending me an email I can post or forward describing the situation.

Central Parking System Nashville 615-297-4255 and Premier Parking Nashville 615-238-2250 (edit - these companies operate most public for pay parking in Nashville) both said about the same thing as the Sports Authority - small groups eating/drinking in the lots is usually ignored but they do not allow grills, canopies, etc.

There is clearly a lot of misunderstanding regarding this situation even among people at the same organization. Before making preparations to haul and set up a big tailgate party I urge you to do your own research. If you do set up and have an enjoyable tailgate party May 1 in Nashville then I'm really glad it went well for you and I wish I could have been there. If the Music City PHiNs could have made arrangements to have a real outdoor tailgate party we fer sure would have done that.

Phins up y'all

NOTICE - Erin Perry at the Nashville Downtown Partnership called to let me know that the pedestrian bridge crossing the river between LP Field Lot R and downtown Nashville will be closed May 1. I am guessing for repairs. If I find a press release I'll post it.
Bummer - Nashville sux

UPDATE - Closing the Shelby Street pedestrian bridge -
http://www.nashville.gov/pw/pdfs/news/2 ... edMain.pdf
It does not specifically list closing dates but the date we are worried about - May 1 - is in the range listed as refurbing the walking surface.

OK, here's the latest scoop. I talked with Andrea from the Parkit thing for downtown. She said that what she would recommend as far as tailgating is to use the "grassy area" near Fort Nashborough as well as the surface parking lots near there. She said that at every single Titans game there are people tailgating there, and it shouldn't be a problem at all. There's a map on their website that shows all of the parking lots. The grassy area I'm talking about is very close to the river, and you can see it clearly if you zoom out on the map (http://www.parkitdowntown.com/public_parking.php)

I'm guessing that the parking companies do not want to just say that it is completely allowed beforehand, but i see no reason why they would come and shut us down if we set up. Especially if we clean up after ourselves.

I really hope this works out, because every other JB concert I've been to has been a blast, and I don't want the one in my home town to be a let down.

I can't believe they are closing the bridge? That is a nice walk if it is not too hot. I'd maybe check on the open container in public regulations if I was tailgating. My party will be at Rippy's but I hope all goes well. Maybe next year we can tailgate in the parking lot at the brand new Margaritaville! That would be a trip!

Looking forward to a big day.

Can't speak for the Beer Sellar being open, but depending on where you're coming from, I'd stop by Old Chicago in Murfreesboro, TN for some Purple Haze. Their claim to fame is 110 brews. Not all are on tap, but they do have a lot, including Abita Purple Haze. I just tried it recently, and it is very good.

Word I got from one of the Nashville beer related email lists was Beer Sellar will not be open by May 1. 12 South Taproom is not far from downtown (1 1/2 mile) and has Abita Purple Haze.

Tailgating info update

As I previously mentioned there is a lot of misunderstanding, miscommunication, etc about tailgating even within the same organization. I have been told three different things by three different people at the same business or organization. This morning I received emails from a director and a manager at two places regarding tailgating. Although Central Parking told me twice via telephone they do not allow grills I have personally seen grills in their lots with no problem and I have also seen people asked to take them elsewhere and take down canopies. Party on pholks - I hope to drop by for a visit to see how things are going.
Nashville Downtown Partnership Communications Director wrote: I wanted to let you know that we posted a no tailgating policy for LP Field Lot R on the webpage about the BEEP parking option. Click here to see the disclaimer: http://www.parkitdowntown.com/getting_around/BEEP/. Also, this lot will not open until 5 pm the night of the concert.

Also note that all of the other LP Field parking lots will be locked that night and not open for parking. As they are every night of the year (excepting Titans' games, the marathon, CMA Fest and other LP Field special events).

HOWEVER, please note that tailgating happens in surface parking lots around downtown EVERY Sunday during Titans' home games during their season. People not only set up in parking lots, but also in pockets of green space located near Fort Nashborough and the river.

I doubt that you will have a problem finding a place to set up a tailgate on the West side of the river (i.e. not the LP Field side).

Enjoy the concert on May 1!

 my wish list
And on a lot of Nashvillian's wish lists too. There are two pretty good places for an outdoor venue that have been in the news recently - the fairgrounds at Nashville Speedway and the old steam plant location beside the river near downtown.

There have been public meetings recently asking the public what they think should be done with the fairgrounds. I wrote a letter to the mayor giving my opinion (outdoor music venue - this IS Music City) and I know a few others who feel the same way. But as most things involving money, politics, etc it will probably either languish in discussions for years or something really stupid like get sold to a developer for quick cash.

The old steam plant location would be nice because it is near downtown. There have been mentions in the news that the Nashville Sounds baseball team want that location. If the Sounds get the old steam plant then the old Sounds field (Greer Field) might make a good music venue.

I miss Starwood. I lived just a few miles from it, there was decent parking and the roads leading to it were usually big enough to handle all but the biggest concert.

Looks like I know where I'm going!! If anyone else is going to tailgate before the concert, I'll be set up in that lot. Looking forward to seeing some of you guys there! I'll head that way around 11am or noon. The walk seems to be only around 10 minutes from that lot according to google.
