If You Won the Lottery......

Post by Bfan53again »

How would your life change? Where would you live? What would you do with all that money?

For me, instant retiree, no more crappy jobs that just pay the bills......

I'd buy a condo in Newport, RI for the summer (love sailing on Narragansett Bay) and rent a private villa in the Keys for the winter. Most likely volunteer at the Museum of Yachting while in Newport and maybe the turtle rescue organization while in Florida. My only real "splurge" would be having a brand new Corvette at each location for me to drive....... [smilie=coolup.gif]

Annual excursions sailing in the Caribbean would also be nice! Also, never worrying about the price of JB concert tickets.....

Depending on the amount of my winnings I'd certainly take care of certain family and friends so they, too, would never have another financial worry in their lives. Then I'd turn my attention to charities that I'd like to support. I would ask that the money is received without fanfare, I don't need my name on the side of some building....... :o

Fun to dream, isn't it? How about other BNers????????
On most days I say: "Wrinkles only go where the smiles have been...."
Sometimes I can only say: "There is no dumbass vaccine......"

If something or someone gets you down, just remember: "In a hundred years it all won’t matter.........."

I would buy me a house in Cincinnati, Knoxville, New York, and a beach house somewhere...and a private jet. That way I can see my Cincinnati Reds and my Tennessee Vols anytime I want. Then when I want a few days of on the go life I head up to New York City...then back down to my beach house for a little rest and relaxation.

I would also invest some of it in a business to keep the money flow going. And of course I would help my friends and family and give on a normal basis to a few charities. They come first! Oh...and I didn't forget...I would follow the Buffett tour around the world for a while until he...here comes the bad word...RETIRES! Ugh...what a sad thought.

Hmmm......half of it would go to the Soon to be Ex, being as the paperwork isn't done.

BUT....assuming I can hold off winning until after.....half goes to a good accountant to manage. Send me the interest. Handful of friends and family get mortgages paid off. No cash....sorry. Take your monthly house payment amount and have fun. Fairly small house for me somewhere. I don't need much...would rather be cozy. Not sure where. Depends on what mood I'm in when I get the check. Just don't have the desire for a lot of toys. Full bespoke wardrobe from Savile Row. That should s*** up a bit of coin.

Hmmmm...well, first thing I'd do is retire. Then I'd pay off all my family's mortgages and take care of them financially, and do the same to a few close friends.
Then I'd buy a place on the Gulf coast, right on the water, complete with my own dock where I could moor my sailboat, and a new dive boat. I'd buy Marilyn her dream car, a VW Superbeetle convertible, and have my Jeep Wrangler modified with a "Brute" package

Image

I'd also look into a place here in Vermont right on Lake Champlain with a similar set up to the place in FLA, so I can dive here in the summers when I'm not following Jimmy around the country.
I'd also book Jimmy to play my next Birthday, and get to pick the setlist. Of course I'd invite all my BN phriends, and a few other trop Rock acts like the Boat Drunks, Scott Kirby, Kelly McGuire...etc. :D There would also be "Meet & Greets" with all the acts including Jimmy. Y'all think FFF and Critterpolooza are phun, this would be the party of the century...a MoTM for a few hundred people with a Jimmy Buffett show to end it all.

Once I had accomplished all that and the dust had settled, I'm sure Marilyn and I would start to travel....there's a lot of places to see, and people to visit

I'd buy a nice, but not palatial, house in Southern Utah and open a bakery.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"

I'd put 1/2 into my business. With that type of infusion, I could generate a very comfortable living. The other half would go towards making my non-profit a successful entity.

What would I do? Assuming it's enough, I'd give a small percentage to my brothers and sisters (including my wife's) and my mother. Annually, I'd give them whatever the gift tax laws allow. ($20k?). Some kind of trust for my sons. A gift to my son's high school to finish the Performing Arts Center (with our name on it :D )

I'd buy a summer house on Lake Michigan near Ludington and another in Cabo (or maybe Key West) for the winter with country club memberships in each place. As soon as my replacement could be found, I'd quit my job. While I'd like to start travelling more, we still have a son in grade school, so we'd have to wait for him to at least be driving to travel much during the school year.

I figure after a year or two, I'd probably start getting bored. I'd probably look for a business to own. Maybe a golf course?

Tease me all you want.
It's my dream and I love it.

If I won a huge lottery…….

After making sure there were investments that would pay X amount per month (X being enough to live lavishly and travel extensively) I would like to work on something that came to me in one of the most vivid dreams I have ever had. I’ve never told anyone about this dream and I have had it more then a few times.

I would start a foundation for education. The purpose of this foundation would be to fund what I would call the CLASS Program Crepeau Lifetime Academic Scholarship.
The Scholarship would not only pay for a student to become a teacher but provide a stipend throughout the teachers career and into retirement.

The teacher would be required to teach in the public systems (I’m not 100% sure about that though)

This would be done by placing a sum of money into a special account that would pay for the scholarship, and the stipend with interest. After the person who received this money passed on the initial sum and any interest not paid out would return to the general fund for the awarding of another scholarship.

This would take a huge amount of money so therefore other wealthy people would be
Invited to made donations to the cause. All money donated for the program would be kept
In the safest possible investments and only the interest gained would be used for the scholarships.

Hopefully the fund would grow until there were CLASS teachers in every state of the Union.

There is more to the dream but this is enough for now.

same thing for me except for the Ireland part. I'm not 100% sure where I'd move but it would have sunshine and warmth.
