2010 Shopping Report

Yes, it is still a snowy nightmare here on the east coast BUT there are some signs that Spring and Summer are on there way!!

To start with the Summerzcool concerts were in Fl this week. Then we have dates for, Under The Big Top being announced.

WalMart is starting to put out summer clothing.

Target has a nice display started of bathing suites.

Oriental Trading Company's spring catalog has a few pages of tropical party themed items.

This means that the warm weather season (the parrothead season) is around the corner.

So when your out and about and see tropical themed items that you think would be good for a tailgate, club party, travel or summer time in general remember to stop by this thread and post it here so you can share it with all your BN phriends!!

if you have a ...k o h l s....in your area, they have t shirts with a parrothead related theme. i don't know the brand name, but the designer must be a jimmy fan. take a look when you visit a store.

This thread made me laugh!

We live in Michigan. About a month ago,, our "big box" stores all dutifully took out the snow shovels and driveway salt and stocked lawn mowers, grass seed, fertillizer, and garden tools. It will be MONTHS before any of this stuff can be used.

i used to wait until i was getting ready to leave for vacation (June or July) to go swim suit shopping, and everything was picked over and nothing left...

one year, i thought i'd be on top of things and went shopping late April (after tax season is over). i was told by the associate that i was still too late and that all the good stuff had sold out months ago and they were getting ready to put the leftovers on clearance :o April? wtf?

I agree that it will be a while till these items can be used by most of us locally. But I figured with the terrible winter weather the majority of us have been dealing with I thought it could be something positive to look forward to and lift our spirits. Besides if the stores are putting it out this early now is the time to know it is out there so we can check out the merchandise while there is a variety to chose from and while we have a chance to price compare.

So how many of you are shoppers? You know who you are. I know I am. I enjoy it and pride myself on getting the best deal possible.

When the new stuff for the summer season comes out I just love to go see what there is and see what I can add to the collection. I've found you don't really have to spend a lot of money to get some nice stuff if you take some time and look around.

it's good to start early and be ready when the time comes :D

i guess i just get frustrated with not being able to go the store and buy 'in season' items because they've already put them away and put out next season's stuff

  If shopping were a sport, I'd be a gold medal olympian!

I don't mind the "tropical" stuff coming out so we can anticipate good times. However, I don't see myself getting real excited about storing grass seed and fertilizer until it is time it could be used

Home Goods always has a nice selection of tropical stuff. They have a lot of flamingo stuff this year...but I've shown remarkable restraint. I did get two sets of giant "ice tea" plastic tumblers, one set has a parrot with a palm frond, the other has a flamingo with palm trees. $4.99 for a set of 6, other tropical designs available too.

Nancy, I have to remember that phrase and use it!! I'll remember to give you credit for it. :)
Yes, it would definitely be my sport as well. For whatever reason I find it a great way to relax. I know that it is not that for a lot of people but for me it works. I turn off the cell phone and take off for a few peaceful hours to explore. I prefer to shop weekdays as opposed to weekends when possible cause there are just to many people out and about around here on weekends and everything is so crowded. That I don't find relaxing.

So, super shoppers.

I'll be spending a week in Florida (March Break from school for the grandkeets and daughter who's a teacher, and, yes, both her husband and mine, the infamous No Parrot).

What should I look for in the stores of Ft Lauderdale and Orlando?

I'm thinking of stocking up on bedsheets: yours are SO much cheaper!

Aside from M'ville, what shopping opportunities should I not miss?

I am a short-term shopper: I quickly from mall fatigue, within 90 minutes, if my feet hold out that long!

Any suggestions?

if there is a SteinMart within driving distance, go for it. I love those stores. It's kind of like Marshall's, if you know that store, but better. SteinMart opened their first store here in MA but it's pretty far (50 minutes) but we're willing to make the trek to check it out. the thing i find might be an issue at the moment...since it's not FLA, no tropical themed goods.

There is one Steinmart in Pittsburgh, priced hire than Marshalls/TJ Maxx. Clothes are nice...

If you do not like to go to the Mall, then shop your heart out on line.
