Sanibel Island *** with an update

We are returning to Captiva/Sanibel Island for our fourth year in a row on our way down to MOTM. Here's our recap of fun things to do while visiting.

Beaches:
Bowman's Beach on Sanibel-great shelling

Blind Pass Beach: There actually two beaches. We enjoy the Captiva side. Again, great shelling and possible manatee encounters since they swim through the Pass. (Cathi had three at once last year.)

Captiva Beach-Located at the north tip of Captiva, near South Seas Plantation.

Tours:
Ding Darling National Wildlife Preserve-self guided tour through mangrove and Indian shell mound area. Beautiful!

Ferry to Cabbage Key- Catch the morning cruise with Captiva Cruises out to Cabbage Key Inn for lunch. They proclaim CIP was written there.

Periwinkle Park Parrot Exhibit-This is a residential area of manufactured homes on Sanibel, but if you ask the gate guard, they will direct you to a wonderful display of exotic birds and parrots that the residents maintain there. Over 30 birds! Be sure to say hi to Buddy, a Timneh African Grey parrot (like Mr. Utley).

Restaurants and Bars:
Any of the Doc Ford Rum Bars (Fort Myers, Sanibel at Rabbit Road on Sanibel and the new location on Captiva at South Seas Plantation. (Read some Randy Wayne White novels. He is a local legend)

The Mucky Duck on Captiva-Sunset, enough said!

'Tween Waters, The Green Flash, Lazy Flamingo, Over Easy Cafe, and RC Otter's.

This year we are staying in Bonita Springs and plan to check out Lover's Key Recreational area.
