Lots of great places mentioned!!! and the pool bar at the Tweenwaters on Captiva makes a great cheeseburger and we hung out with kids for a while...very nice pool!!! (We were not staying there they let us hang at the pool since we had lunch there!)

Have an awesome trip! :D

We are planning to be in Sanibel Island on November 10 for one night as we travel down the West Coast of Florida on the way to cruise out of Fort Lauderdale. Our main objective is to visit Doc Ford's for dinner in Sanibel. Then on our way back from Fort Lauderdale after the cruise, we plan to travel up the East Coast and stop at the Square Grouper Bar in Jupiter. Lots of driving but we hope its worth it.

We're up in Punta Gorda for MOTW........have to let y'all know Sanibel Inn was not going down as a "stay here!" kinda place. We paid $319 per night and the beds were like sleeping on a cement slab (even the 300 thread count sheets didn't help...... :roll: ) and we needed to use the hotel computer but we had to swipe our credit card for minutes..... :-? We were glad that we only stayed for 3 nights..... :o

Had great food at the Lazy Flamingo, Matzaluna, Doc Fords and RC Otters.........that night we saw a top 5 sunset of all time at the end of the street on the beach. I wish we could have explored Captiva a little more. Hung out at Mucky Duck for a bit...there was a guy singing Buffett but we couldn't even get drinks orderd. We went to The Bubble Room but it was insane and the line to get take out cake was out the door. Note to self......DO NOT ATTEMPT during spring break! :D

Des.......kinda my thoughts about Sanibel......nice, not what I expected.....would give it another shot if it wasn't so unbelieveably crowded...... 8)

Yup, this is THE worst time, triple whammy, tourists, snow birds and spring breakers. The closest I get is the view from my boat as I sail on by. Most of us locals avoid the place like the plague until May-June when we get our "home" back until November, maybe try it again during that time someday AND spend more time on Captiva 8)

For those who are interested here is my Sanibel Island recap;
Arrived on 4/26 Flew into Ft Meyers, easy drive to Sanibel Island. This was a down week and there was no one on the Island our place the Sundial was at like 15% capacity. Sundial was spotless well kept 5 pools very kid friendly. The rental bikes were junk so if you’re a biker rent somewhere else. The bike paths were great and cover the Island and we enjoyed the Island Preserves, and the Lighthouse. The beach was great just like the promo adds say shells everywhere clean beautiful green water. Resort food was ok. The Island is Hugh nothing like Key West so you need a car. If your on the beach thier is no walking anywhere. We went to Captiva about 5 times takes about a half hour at the Island speed limit of 35mph. If I go back I will stay on Captiva. My #1 restaurant review was the Island Cow just great. Went there 3 times tried breakfast, lunch, and dinner food was very very good and prices were the best on the Island. Doc Fords was next also great food. We did the Bubble room kids loved it. RC Otters Ok, and the Mucky Duck great Sunset food OK. One disappointment was the Light house Café for breakfast I’ll just say “Krab” is not crab. There is no nightlife on the Island. We stayed out once past 9:30 and I felt like we were breaking curfew on the ride back no one on the roads.

Flew out 5/3 great trip very relaxing

Note the Island does very little to advertise whats going on so do your research before you go

Thanks for that Nancy, brought back many great memories. My grandparents retired down there and I spent many summers on Sanibel and Captiva during my younger days. Used to live aboard TRADEWIND at Ft Myers Beach working as a sailboat charter captain, beautiful area. Love the song also.

You're welcome, CNF. Island life...so sweet. I've got to make it back that way for a longer stay again. That song also put ideas in my head again.

Since one of my other old posts just got a bump. We are going back to Sanibel and Captiva this fall. Staying at Tween Waters this time just can't wait to go back. Any new places I need to check out?

Amys Over Easy Cafe for breakfast; usually a wait, but well worth it. Timbers is very old school seafood and steaks. Agree with Matzaluna, good stuff there. For your grocery needs, check out either Bailey's or Jerry's, some very cool stuff in both locations. Our favorite is Doc Fords; we've had the pleasure of running into Randy Wayne White there a couple of times. If it's still on the drink menu, and if you like margaritas, get a Silverglider -you won't be disappointed.
