Re: Louie's Backyard
Never had a problem with locals there, and the waitstaff and bartenders have been universally friendly to me.sonofabeach wrote:My buddy and I sat at the bar once and a local was busting our balls about the way we were dressed. As we were leaving he yelled out "wear some louder shirts next time". I guess we did not fit in there. I usually give a place a second chance but I did not like the "pinky up" vibe that day we were there.
There *are* some people on the island who *really* have a h@rd-on about Parrotheads. But then, one of my spiritual teachers would remark that there are good people and goofy ones *everywhere*.

Take me for what I am, a star newly emerging.

Re: Louie's Backyard
Don't worry about the bar! The drinks are great and fair priced. The sunset can't be beat there as well. It's just the menu in the restaurant is a serious cash cow for the owner.Johnny's Lounge wrote:Hmmm, I wanted to go here for a Bloody Mary when I'm down there in December. I may have to think again. I doubt I will even have any appropriate attire for the place!
As for locals (which some others mentioned) Yeah, there are a few... few mind you, not a lot.. who have not the best feelings for Parrotheads. Like wise for Jimmy Buffett, who, I don't know if he did actually pay the Mini Mart back, as he said he would in the song, but if a lot of the bartenders I've heard are to believed, he still has quite a few un-paid bar bills gathering interest from days of yore!

Re: Louie's Backyard
Thanks for the input.
Any real dress code there? I really wasn't going to bring much on vacation that trip other than the standard summer type stuff (going to Mexico from there)

Re: Louie's Backyard
I didn't eat at Louie's Backyard but I did eat at the restaurant/lounge area above Louie's Backyard...I think it's called Louie's Upper Deck or something like that. They serve tapas...the food was really good. The atmosphere was nice and they kept all the windows open and a nice breeze off the ocean comes in. If you don't want to spend the money to eat at Louie's, I definitely recommend going to the Upper Deck. I would go back there for sure.

As long as you're wearing some sort of shirt or shoes... albeit sneakers, sandals, ex, you'll be fine anywhere in town.

Re: Louie's Backyard
The first time I went there(for lunch), I had on a swimsuit and a cover up. For dinner, my husband has always worn shorts. The last time there, the folks sitting near the end of the deck were getting soaked as sea water was splashing up on the deck.chrisrehm wrote:A dress code in Key West? Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot Noir in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO"
