Louie's Backyard

Of course, we all know Louie's Backyard from Jimmy Buffet, who once, many, many moons ago, lived next door. The following should crack a smile or two of an indecent that happened last Thursday. The following appeared in the Key West paper on Friday.
Fine dining, brawling at upscale restaurant
KEY WEST -- A loud and obnoxious diner at an upscale seaside restaurant caused a commotion late Monday after other customers complained and then confronted the man, reports say.
There were no arrests, but the owner of Louie's Backyard filed a police report Wednesday to pursue criminal charges.
The owner and a manager at the 700 Waddell Ave. eatery told police that when an employee advised the offending diner to "keep it down a little," the man became belligerent and demanded the manager identify who complained.
Then another man, at a nearby table, reportedly stood up and announced that it was he who complained. That ramped up the disturbance, with other customers joining the fray, prompting other diners to leave the restaurant without paying for their meals.
Officers escorted the original offender and others who joined the ruckus off the property, reports say.

I do get a kick out of the fact that Louie's is a very up-scale restaurant and one needs a Rock Star's income in order to dine there.

Ate there once. Thought the food was good, but very overpriced. I'll never go back, after one of the employees came running after me (down the 'sidewalk') because I accidentally kept the pen I signed the bill with.

We usually get about 6-8 friends together for a dinner during MOTM and have had some of the best food ever. It is expensive but since we tend to eat less during MOTM, it kinda evens out. And having a great meal on the afterdeck at sunset is priceless.

Mmm...I wanna go back...
I can't afford to eat at the restaurant, but I love to hang out after dark and drink at the bar. One of my favorite places to be on the entire island.

Seriously???
You know, assholes like that give lifelong restaurant professionals a bad name.

Yep, seriously. I was so annoyed and embarrassed. I just didn't get the urgency of that pen. And it was not on purpose.

My buddy and I sat at the bar once and a local was busting our balls about the way we were dressed. As we were leaving he yelled out "wear some louder shirts next time". I guess we did not fit in there. I usually give a place a second chance but I did not like the "pinky up" vibe that day we were there.

The one time I've eaten there (so far) we had a really super nice waiter, he actually added to the experience. I guess there are jerks everywhere, and that goes for the person at the bar who complained about attire.

My wife and I ate there once. Food was good, nothing to rave about. I didn't like the hosts attitude. Looked downed upon us as soon as we walked in, even though we were very nicely dressed. Very poor attitude. It may have been a great place to hang out in the 70's, but not anymore.

Here's the blog on it

(The bar at Louie's is great for catching the sunset, by the way. It's usually a great atmosphere. $40+ entrées are out of my league however)

Have eaten there once.
The staff acted like they were doing me a favor by allowing me to be in their restaurant.
I won't be back.

My thoughts exactly. Too many other nice places to eat in Key West to go back there.

If you want a high-end place in Key West where they understand that fine service complements fine dining,
try the restaurant at the Marquesa.
The times we have eaten there have been simply perfect!

Hmmm, I wanted to go here for a Bloody Mary when I'm down there in December. I may have to think again. I doubt I will even have any appropriate attire for the place!
