from those on your list, I voted for Kelly,
but a list without John Frinzi, Scott Kirby, or Sunny Jim is missing some key choices!

If you are new to these three, start with 'Shoreline' by John Frinzi, 'Walkin on Thin Ice' by Scott Kirby, and 'Sandbar Serenade' by Sunny Jim.
In my opinion, 3 of the best trop rock CDs out there.

Sorry, IMO, Zac Brown hasn't been around long enough to be considered.... let him put out a little more Trop Rock than 2 songs before considering him....and even if you don;t think so, Chesney, Sunny Jim and others should be considered....and where are the Boobies???? Any poll on BN has to have that as an option....it's the law.

sunny jim [smilie=cheeky-grin.gif] is the best trop rocker to me...

and [smilie=noeyedear-shrugging.gif] saying Buffett Wanna Be is kinda sassy sounding to me.

This is a learning curve for me I did not know that there were that many shrimpboat rockers out there. A couple of these guys r good some aren't. There was a group called "Captin COOK and the Coconuts." A song lyric said "waylon Jennings is in my heart but Jimmy Buffets still the king " Did a rendition of lucile (you bit## you sl%^ you whor#**) Any body know about them?????????

To hear some live stuff, go to Spooner Radio....besides those mentioned there are a lot of other Trop Rock artists tht he has recorded in concert....and you can also go to Margarita Mafia.com for even more artists, or listen to most of them on Beachfront Radio.

I'm just hoping that 60+ year old dude out there about to hit the road with something known as "Under The Big Top" tour .......

.... will somehow capture something of the old Jimmy Buffett magic I remember.

And .... if he can pull it off .... he can still be the best "Buffett wannabe" out there.

Every now and then though, he misses the mark these days.

Ditto what C said. You'll find several, very nice recordings of many of the trop-rockers on Spooner Radio. :D

I vote for Metallica. They do a kick-ass version of "Come Monday." [smilie=sillyjester.gif] [smilie=sillyjester.gif] [smilie=sillyjester.gif] [smilie=sillyjester.gif]

Reluctantly I must agree but some are still really good like "lot to drink about" " beautiful swimers" but "under the big top" song sounds contrived and cheesey the whole album sounds more like a mac macannaly record than a Jimmy Buffett record. As far as his age I disagree his live shows (and live albums) kick ass.
He has just been so rich for sooo long. Its hard to go back to to your roots. Then again he never said it was anything other than "Good snake oil" Margaritivlle was written in a mexican resturant in Texas while on tour not in some exotic local and pirate looks at 40 was an observation peice that he wrote about his friend phil Clark not himself. Maybe the Buffet you remeber existed only in your mind to begin with. Jimmy is still performing writing songs and making money.

Geez, if you're gonna diss Mac McAnally (Grammy nominated, CMA musician of the year, Nashville Songwriter Hall of Fame) at least spell his name right.... :-? :-? :-?

While I don't consider them wanna bes, from the list I like Jim Morris. I like the music, the gruffy voice and subject matter. Hell, I look forward to a new Jim Morris album more than a Buffett release.
There's plenty of good stuff out there and the island is big enough for everybody.
