A must for any fan of the Stones, particularly this time period.

As seen thru the eyes of Keith Richards, I guess.Tiki Torches wrote:A must for any fan of the Stones, particularly this time period.
Tiki, I tried to figure out what went wrong with your post in hopes of fixing it for you, but I think the number you've got is incorrect. Sorry I couldn't help, I'm a huge Stones fan myself and would've loved to have seen it.

Should be fixed now as I can see it posted. If not, this is the link and the description:Martyritaville wrote:As seen thru the eyes of Keith Richards, I guess.Tiki Torches wrote:A must for any fan of the Stones, particularly this time period.

The Rolling Stones -- Under Review 1967 - 1969 is a 90 minute documentary film reviewing the music and career of the band during, arguably, their most creative period. In the second half of the 1960s the sound of the Stones changed dramatically, while concurrently Jagger and Richards' songwriting hit an all time high. These advances didn't just affect The Rolling Stones forever, they changed Rock n' Roll forever too. This DVD includes rare musical performances (many never before available on DVD), and obscure footage, rare interviews and private photographs of and with the band. It also contains contributions from; 1960s NME editor and friend of the band, Keith Altham; Village Voice music editor, Robert Christgau; Stones backing vocalist, Merry Clayton; Stones session musician, Byron Berline; Rolling Stones biographer, Alan Clayson; Keith Richards biographer, Kris Needs; ex-Rolling Stone magazine editor Anthony De Curtis, Mojo magazine's Barney Hoskins, Uncut magazine's Nigel Williamson and many others. In addition, live and studio recordings of Stones classics have been added, as well as footage of and comment on many of their pivotal influences during this period.

Frampton from his I'm In You album with the late, great Mr. Richie Hayward of Little Feat on the traps.

Re: love youtube!
I saw Kenny perform this years ago on a syndicated program he used to host called Rollin' On the River. A little innerweb research reveals that two best of compilations of Rollin' On the River were issued on VHS in the earlier 90s. Lord knows if they ever made the transition to DVD. At this late date I still haven't heard the original by Alex Harvey.

Wow, thanx Tiki. It's funny, I was never much of a Little Feat fan growing up, but ever since I've been hanging around Parrot Heads, I do have an appreciation for them.Tiki Torches wrote:The real Little Feat:
I also immediately recognized this as a song that my all-time favorite gal singer, Linda Ronstadt, covered back in the day. It was always one of my favs of hers...although in retrospect, maybe I shoulda got a clue, I guess, that when she was singing about "Dallas Alice" it wasn't a threesome she had in mind. (Not that there's anything wrong with that, lol!) Anyway, I never realized Willin' was a Little Feat cover. Small Parrot Head world!
Well, that inspired me to find one of Linda's songs...Grace Slick once described Linda as having "a great set of pipes" and I agree...being a young & impressionable lad back in 1977, I thought she had a lot of great sets of things.

I didn't know it at the time either but evidently several folks covered "Willin'" back then, including the Byrds. Something I recently read alluded to the fact that Lowelll's writing of "Willin'" is what led to Frank Zappa kicking him out of the Mothers of Invention. Love Frank but thank goodness for that or we never would have had Little Feat.Martyritaville wrote:Wow, thanx Tiki. Love Linda too but I guess she got a bit too overexposed back in the day. Love to hear her re-enter the music world again. I mean, if Brother Leon can do it, then anybody can. He also got inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame this year, a distinction that has been long overdue.

Re: love youtube!
Though he doesn't appear in this clip, former Coral Reefer Jay Spell did some time with Canned Heat, something I wasn't aware of until his untimely passing last week. I also had no idea of his tenure with a number of other artists from John Mayall to Tower of Power (bringing it back to Little Feat as the Tower of Power horns guested on the Feat's legendary Waiting For Columbus record).

I'm guessing most everyone here is familiar with this tune. For those that are not, it's NSFW. At least the very last line anyway.

Give this is a listen when you get a chance. Compared to Sean Lennon's latest project, Ghost of A Saber Tooth Tiger (who played in Chapel Hill last night), I think I like this better:

Will the use of "retarded" in this Gourds song get them banned from Texas?
